First 18mm French battalion for the Marengo project up on my blog:

Also a Death Guard Marine and WW1 German test figure.

Good effort. I hate painting French infantry, I can never manage to get the red piping line thin enough, even on nice sculpts like ABs.

Nice result. Actually it's not easy to paint crossbelts over white coat. I have the same problem and tried to get a good effect by using brown washing. AB figures are really good however.

use two different whites, a colder for the belts and a warmer (beige) for the lapels, then of course a bit "black" lining would help as well, just don't use black but for example paynes grey – or spepia

Thanks for the comments. Yeah I agree, painting the redlining is a pain….I think I might leave it off in future.

Von Winterfeld, yes, I have tried to use different whites. White-grey for the lapels and off-white for the belts. Not sure it shows up in the pictures.

Use a white or gray primer, then black wash to entire miniature. Then when painting the white don't paint everything all in, this will help them to stand out.

Jrames, yeah that's what I've done – white primer, followed by a black wash over the figure.

I find it works well – both at 18mm and 28mm.

cheers
