In response to requests for more details on how Skirmish Action WWII rules for 10-40mm minis work I have posted a FREE PDF download detailing everything from list building to set up and deployment through how a turn is played and combat resolved. Click the Breaking News Button on the Skirmish Action home page to download. Hope you find it useful! I will monitor this thread to answer any additional questions. Cheers! Lee

Where?

Lee49412 Feb 2017 7:24 a.m. PST

The website is the same as the name dot com. Sometimes it doesn't work from posts here, but here goes again SkirmishAction.com

Hope that works! Lee

This is one of the misplaced posts I've copied here so everyone can see the good questions and my answers. Actually that isn't my post.

this was:
Thanks Lee!

Looking forward to a test drive.

Some quick questions:
1."(Models, not Units) will be able to be placed on Overwatch or in Improved Cover"

Implies one or the other but not both. Intentional? Seems to me that if I'm in a defensive posture, I'd want to be in improved cover AND be able to use overwatch. Discussion later indicated both, so it may just be the wording here.

2. "After building your list players alternate putting their Units on the table."

How are hidden units handled by the rules?

3. "They may Move. Fire. Improve Cover."

Does Improved cover have different values, and different time costs? Moving and firing seem to be pretty quick. Digging a foxhole not so much. Trench? Stacking of logs or stones?

4. "Close assaults are conducted for all troops in Base Contact and conclude when one side is Knocked Out or Forced Back."

Is this resolved in the same action sequence, or does it continue into later sequences? Are there consequences for both sides? Let's say German unit moves into contact with US unit. US unit had not yet activated. If US wins and Ger is KO or FB, does the close assault preclude the US unit from being activated? If the Ger unit is KO or FB, what is the difference and implication of either? Can the FB unit then be contacted by a different US unit and if so, how does that work?

5. "stuff happens"
You spelled "stuff" wrong wink

I know your intro isn't meant to be comprehensive, and with the actual rules these may be covered.

I also suspect the content vs the thread title indicates another bug strike. Might want to ask Bill to change it for you.

Cheers,

JJ

Good questions. Here are answers but not in exact order you asked.

Close Assaults are not considered and Action and so don't "use up" an Action for either attacker or defender. In a close assault one side always winds up dead or Forced Back which means retreated and Suppresed.

Bill B who has played a lot gave some good answers but they got Bugged into the Volley Fire topic thread. Anyway he is correct, since a 2nd Action is never guaranteed because you must Pass as Quality "Q" Test to perform a 2nd Action you must decide what's most important, in your example Improving Cover or going on Overwatch and do that Action first.

Improving Cover is best described as preparing a Hasty Defense and specifically doesn't include foxholes or trenches. While there is no set time scale most firefights at the Skirnish Level lasted less than an hour. Since games take 1-2 hours to play they are almost Real Time.

Any unit set up in Cover or which moves into Cover in a game is hidden until it fires or until you get close enough to do a Recon Action. We mark them with slips of paper as needed. Recon is very important in SA.

Hope I covered your questions. And under the correct topic/thread now!

Cheers!

Lee

JJ et al. Yes! It's not your eyes it's the Bug at work! Sorry about that. And any confusion it's caused. Hopefully this thread is good now. Cheers!

Re. See You at Cold Wars. At Fall In we had over 40 play and had to add extra sessions as many came by and said the games were full but asked if they could play anyway. If you try and sign up on HMGS when you pre-Reg and the sessions are FULL please let me know and I will start working with the Staff to add sessions NOW which is easier than doing it at the Con.

Thanks! Lee

Are you planning to run some games at Historicon in July.
