Looking for suitable figures to take on my Russian colonial forces, complete historical accuracy NOT required! I know Askari Miniatures do some, and I'm looking at the Copplestone 'Back of Beyond' Mongols and others, but are there any other recommendations? |

The Bokharans, Turcomens and the Khokand people wore the "Beehive" woolen cap, so you could use some of the Foundry Afghan Regulars in said cap. And then throw in some turbans. I imagine the Central Asians as more prosperous, less warlike Afghans with more ornate clothing, embroidered and striped where the Afghans wore off white and plain colors. I also have some Tartar cavalry, manufacturer unknown, who wear the pointed cap with the fur trim. You could try these: link I have looked at the Askari Central Asians and, to my eye they look dwarfish – at least the infantry do. |

Some of the Eureka and Castaway ranges have generic Central Asian/Afghan figures. Some of the Darkest Africa 'Baluchi' figures could also work. |

There's some nice figures in the Siberia Miniatures RCW range – anyone had any dealings with them? Good idea on the DA Baluchis; I've got plenty of Pathan/Afghan types already but now also tempted by the Empress 3rd Afghan War cavalry and infantry (I'm not worried about the rifles being about 50 years out of period!) |

Gripping Beast has Bokharans that should fit the bill. Copplestone (or may be Foundry but they are Copplestone sculpts) has Turkmen. The Siberia figures are a little later in time but very nice. I have ordered from Siberia once and it was a good experience. I would also recommend that you look at Empress's Jazz Age line. Again these are a little later in time and in turbans but really nice minis sculpted by Paul Hicks. LB |
