I guess this is the best place to post this link:

The new spacesuits look pretty good.

About time they got an update. Looks interesting.

Hopefully it works much better than the Wolowitz Zero-Gravity Waste Disposal/Distribution System.

Very SciFi looking. What about the heat problem with the darker suits?

@zoneofcontrol: They have surely solved the decoupling fluctuation.

@Shagnasty: They'll probably have a white version for EVA.

All we need now is a spaceship…

Weasel11 Feb 2017 12:24 a.m. PST

Looking pretty scifi :)

AND a shuttle, or rocket to get to the spaceship.

"@Shagnasty: They'll probably have a white version for EVA."

Couldn't they just go outside at night?

John Treadaway11 Feb 2017 11:08 a.m. PST

That's not a "going outside" suit, that's a "something has gone badly wrong inside the ship, please keep me alive" suit.

EVAs are gonna need a bigger, bulkier, tougher, more capable suit. Probably a white one!

The environmental control systems have gotten a lot better, you don't need a white space suit for EVA anymore.

@Tacitus We're building them as fast as we can.

Looks like a very good design !

And Wolowitz probably would of had nothing to do with it's design ! evil grin

Zephyr114 Feb 2017 3:41 p.m. PST

Just hope they've figured out a way to minimize the "almost drowning in the suit" problems they've had recently… ;-)

Ghostrunner14 Feb 2017 3:58 p.m. PST

I doubt these have much of a cooling system… this is like an airbag in a sportscar… it may save your life, but it's not something you want to have to count on.

I have said before, the only way I'd go into space. Would be in the comfort of any version of the Enterprise, Voyager, Defiant, etc. evil grin

Or if abducted by Aliens ! huh?

Actually, one of my oldest friends designs spacesuit gloves or something like that for NASA (and he and I were a year or two ahead of the current head of Johnson Space Center). I wonder if he worked on this.

Lion in the Stars16 Feb 2017 6:30 p.m. PST

For an oh shit! suit, I'd want the helmet attached already, but for general EVA I think you'd be better off with a separate helmet. After all, with a separate helmet, if your helmet goes bad, you just grab another one.
