Gods and generals, 1 part historic white washing on the level of songs of the south (just less catchy tunes) and 1 part history channel quality CGI.
Stephen Lang is a brilliant actor. But the movie stinks.

Gods and Generals

"Gods and Generals" is the worst. By the same people who brought us the best ACW movie "Gettysburg." I am still at lost to explain it.

Gods and Generals not completely horrible: they used our fabric to make some of the uniforms.

"The worst ACW movie I've ever seen was some horrible monstrosity about three brothers on their way to Shiloh called Journey to Shiloh.
I shudder to even think about it."

I remember this movie from when I was a kid, thought it was pretty good back then, saw it recently on cable……….Yikes.

It was beyond bad.

And speaking of bad, the rug James Caan wore in it should have come with a chin strap, he got knocked unconscious three times and how that thing managed to stay on his head each time was a miracle.

They used battle scenes from the movie Shenandoah, which were pretty bad, but not as bad as the battle scenes shot for the actual movie depicting the Battle of Shiloh, just horrendous.

No one has slammed "The Horse Soldiers" yet? Much like "The Battle of the Bulge", this one is one of my guilty pleasures, I still enjoy this one for whatever goofy reason.

"That holy Joe ain't no kid" gets me everytime.

"What do you want to do, Colonel, set up a field hospital?'
"Yes Mistah colonel Marlowe whaddya gonna do now?"
"With all due respect to your presence ma'am, I'm gonna get the hell outta here!"

Gods and generals was more like the vagina monkouges with all of the homoerotic campfire scenes. There's no cryiningbin the civil war!

Glory. Just plain badly done.

The preachifying in Gods and Generals is woeful. We in other countries don't get the puritanical christianity. Having said that the battle scenes were good and Duvall was great as Bobby Lee. I just forward to the battles.
Its very much like the books. Killer Angels is a wonderful book and i have reread it many times. The sons follow up lack the talent of the father and try to get too much into the sermonising.

Some of the ones(titles escape me) where they don't even bother with the right officer's rank insignia. ex.,20th century US officers rank insignia on Confederate uniforms. Mainly from the silent film era. And I agree about "Journey To Shiloh" ,John Doucette as a beardless Braxton Bragg? There were 4 others in addition to the brothers-total of 7 in the group. It did, however, give a young Harrison Ford a bit of on- camera experience.

Double G, I agree with you about "Journey to Shiloh", with one exception… I still have a crush on Tisha Sterling who played Airybelle Sumner, the ultimate southern belle in our imagination, even more than Scarlett O'Hara.

There were a number ACW and even Westerns made in the 50s & 60s that were really horrible ! Just like Battle of the Bulge ! (need a thumbs down emoji x 2 !)
