There are many types of 'football' games where a group of people run around a field kicking, throwing, catching and/or running with a ball in an attempt to get it across a line or into a net. Which football do you prefer? (a) Association football (a.k.a. 'soccer') (b) American football. (c) Australian rules football. (d) Rugby. (e) I like all forms of football. (f) I prefer other sports. (g) I am not a sports fan. |

E, but the list leaves out many variants from around the globe. Even in the US, there is a divide between the NFL and NCAA rules, and the split between divisions within the NCAA. Rick |

C of course. Best combination of skill, endeavour, tactics and courage. An ordinary person can still afford to attend ( and take the kids). It is depressing to see the lack of kids in the crowds at so many overseas sporting events. |

E, F – Live G – TV (Except AFL (which we call ARF because we grew up with a gridiron football AFL), for some reason I can do more than tolerate Aussie Rules on the toob.) Local MLS season ticket holder. Partial NHL season ticket holder. Go to 2-3 local MLB games a year when someone at work gets a group block. Hit the Monster Truck ballet or X-Games every couple of years when they are local. Kids have matriculated out of HS and college sports, so those would be a rarity except SWMBO and my annual pilgrimage to the alma mater (where we met; she was my freshman year roommate's girlfriend) for one gridiron football game a year. Too broken to play sports anymore. |

You need to use your foot at least 90% of the time for it to be football. So there is only one option with actual football. However all the options are equally boring and silly. Dogs are supposed to run after balls, not grown humans. |

A – NUFC fan, get to the home matches fairly regularly. And to a much lesser extent, B. Lived and worked in Atlanta for years – home of an all-conquering baseball team and a jaw-droppingly inconsistent football team. Obviously, I chose to follow the football. Much as I enjoy American Football, it'll always come second to soccer in my affections. I'm spoilt by forty-five minutes of continuous action once the whistle blows. I never shook the feeling that ten minutes of active play – however exciting – was something I could have got from cricket, if I'd been that way inclined.
GFs a big rugby fan -Union, NOT League – (in fact, what's the point of having "Rugby" in the poll, and not specifying which code?) I've 'plus one-ed' her to Newcastle Falcons matches occasionally. |
DeRuyter | 09 Feb 2017 10:56 a.m. PST |
A the only proper football – MLS season ticket holder B and the other options aren't truly "football" because only one player actually uses his foot on the ball. Just sayn' TBH B should be called handeggball – after all the ball is shaped more like an egg… Then there's the players standing around for the commercial breaks, sheesh. |

B. American Rules Football And all eleventeen players on both sides of the line of scrimmage must use both of their foots at all times. They are either running with the ball, running to catch the ball, running to tackle the person with the ball or using their foot to stomp on others who get in their way. Just sayin'… |

Definitely A, though there is a particular Seahawks fan who spends 3 hours every Sunday morning on the freeway overpass waving a #12 Seahawks banner in all kinds of nasty weather. His enthusiasm makes me smile. I wish I could enjoy watching sports that much. |

F. I live for baseball. But if I must choose football it would be B-though I limit my fandom to college football. NFL can sink into a pit of molten lava. |
