Apparently there is a need for a poetry board on TMP Plus. Why not? As the late, great and much missed Security Minister Critter used to say, "More boards, lovely!"

never have had much interest in poetry …
Not even Carentan O Carentan?

The author was in the 101st in WWII:
"While Simpson's early books like The Arrivistes (1949) and A Dream of Governors (1959) show the influence of Auden, they also speak to his horrific experiences in World War II, where he served in the 101st Airborne Division and saw active duty in France, Belgium, and Germany."

Thanks to Lt Col Pedant for introducing me to the poem here:

Well like I said, not interested in "much" poetry. I am a bit of a fan of that poem, for obvious reasons.

As well as some of the evocative poems from WWI, etc. Even like some of Kipling … But again, this was not intended to be a post on poetry. So … one can take that for what it is worth …

It does rather highlight the mistake of trying to conduct a private conversation on a public board, especially one called "TMP Talk" which implies anyone can join in ;-)
This certainly seems to be the case. But I don't go on threads about zombies and post about e.g. robots, etc. … But that must just be me ! huh?

This is most unseemly and is just high-brow bullying, an anthropomorphised version of bear-bating.
So even in my unsophisticated, rustic, limited education, urban caveman tiny, little mind, I saw that as being the case … I may be not a dumb some think I am ? huh?

I'd recommend the fine works by William McGonnegal. Unlike all that high brow Lesbian stuff, it actually rhymes (sort of!)

I think that is a misattribution. I believe the phrase started with the late, lamented Connard Sage and its correct form is: "More boards. Lovely."

I don't think Mr Sage was much of a one for exclamation marks.

Of course it sounds better in the original Greek: Περισσότερα συμβούλια. Ωραίος.

You got that right ! I can see why the old saying "It's all Greek to me !" is appropriate ! wink

Texas Jack19 Feb 2017 12:45 p.m. PST

@SJDonovan

Perhaps then Hank got it from Connard Sage, but I prefer Hank´s much more optimistic version. grin

Casca actually says, "it was Greek to me."
The concept is to show the ignorance of the conspirators.
They are merely a bunch of thugs & clearly no intellectual academics.

Shakespeare may have gotten the phrase from a Latin one:
""Graecum est; non legitur"

S.himself was supposed to had "small Latin and less Greek", according to the rare Ben Jonson.

Sounds like some people I know … even me !
