Several years ago I bought a couple of bottles of Vallejo Black Wash 73.201. It had an orange ribbon on the upper right corner of the label that said NEW FORMULA.

I found it much better than the original formula in that it darkened the rest of the figure much less and stayed in the crevices much better.

Now I can't find it. I am not sure where I bought it, but I thought it was one of three dealers. None of them can get the New Formula in black from their distributor, but one did get me other colors in New Formula.

I have tried five dealers so far and have nothing. I am told there are at least four U.S. distributors of the product. One dealer I found on Amazon. The photo of the bottle had the orange ribbon, so I thought I was all set. But he told me he just got a supply from his distributor and there was no New Formula.

An email was sent to Vallejo asking where I could buy it, but I have had no response.

So, if anyone knows where I can get this, I would greatly appreciate your help. I would prefer a U.S. source, but would buy from Canada or Great Britain. I am afraid the postage from continental Europe would be out of sight. However, maybe it should be "any port in a storm." So if the continent is my only source, I guess I would go with it.

Thanks.

I normally get all my Vallejo Products from Sprue Brothers but they don't list it (currently).

Found this:

Could be the "New Formula" isn't new anymore and they dropped the ribbon? There is an FTC legal limit of 6 months to how long you can call something new.

I just got some Vallejo black wash from the Warstore. New? Not sure.

Thanks to all for your responses.

@ Joe, his image is of the original label. I will contact him though to ask. Thanks for your help on that.

@ Schogun, it occurred to me that it may not be new anymore so the orange ribbon is gone. But I was not aware of the FTC rule. That would explain why I can't find them.

@ McKinstry, yes, that is the problem. Bottles without the orange ribbon may be new or may be so old that they predate the new.

Both the original formula and those bottles with the New Formula ribbon used the code number with a decimal point, like so: 73.201.

I have seen a photo of the wash with a label without the New Formula ribbon and without a decimal point, like so: 73201.

It has occurred to me that this label may be the new formula as well. I have never seen a label with this code number without the decimal point before. Unfortunately, none of the dealers I have contacted have any bottles without the decimal point. And two of them just received an order from their distributors. All labels had decimal points and no ribbons.

Oh, the mysteries of life.

Thanks again for your help.

If any of you have the wash with the code number on it with no decimal point, i.e. 73201, I would greatly appreciate knowing where you bought it.

By the way, in my experience the names and numbers on the labels change quite often. The product is usually about the same but Griffin Green one day may be Dragon Green in the next shipment. Decimals come and go (I have a few bottles with dashes!) and some lack the numbers entirely.

Thanks for the info Mark. That was news to me. It may make identifying any new formula, versus what some distributor has had lying around for quite a while, just about impossible absent the orange NEW FORMULA ribbon.

I second Mark. Vallejo labels change often (especially names) and we never know wether to go with the sku number with or without the dot.
We have found with Vallejo that it moves so fast that we have not run across old batches of single paints in distributor stock. You can get an old paint from time to time in box sets, but that is rare.

Thanks WarStoreMan. I was wondering how long the stuff sits around. I would think that black would be one of the fastest sellers.

Maybe I should just give up and take what I get.
