Anyone in Toronto play or host monthly games / meetings? |
stephen m | 05 Feb 2017 9:16 a.m. PST |
Good question. I have been trying to pursue this for a few months. As far as miniatures games it seems you need the secret handshake at the right place and time. I was in touch with a guy here from Peterborough but he has gone awol. There are a few cons (hot lead) coming up and it seems you need to attend to get in the door. I am from North of TO in Keswick. I would like to find gamers for micro armour (WWII and Sci Fi), Age of Sail and am willing to try other stuff. If you are into board wargames there is a group meets monthly. Contact info is here; meetup.com/canucksamuck Reply if you would like to get together. Stephen |

Hi Stephen yes I'm familiar with Keswick. However Im in the west end of Toronto (Etobicoke). An hours drive each way is tough. I agree with you about the secret handshake. I'm shocked that with 8 million people in the GTA that were hard pressed to find anything. I've looked into Canucks Amuck. I like hex and counter games too, but I want to play minis. I'm primarily interested in 20mm, WWII, however would be open to pretty much anything at this rate :S |

Ha! I work beyond the airport at Tomken and Mattheson. I am only looking for once a month or two so not lots of driving. |

What about the people who organize the September convention/meeting in the south of Etobicoke, in a Legion Hall on Lakeshore and Brown? They seem like a bunch who meet and play often. Perhaps it would be a good idea to go to Hot Lead in Stratford next month and investigate, maybe make some connections? I would also inquire in Meeplemart and Dueling Grounds. |

My understanding is dueling grounds is no more but was the only place to contact minis gamers. I don't know of the group/con you mention in Etobicoke. I am also led to believe the local mini gamers tend to have a narrow focus. Example they might play 15 mm Napoleonics and nothing else so contacting a group outside of your area of interest may not give you leads to others. Used to be General Staff was a good meetup for getting in touch with others. Canuck Amouk gamers seem to have no interest in minis at all, yours truely excepted. This is based on asking at the couple meetings I managed to make it out to. Just my 2 cents and personal observations of course. |

I think that event I was referring to was called Hold The Line. They had it in 2015 and 2014 for sure, for the last year I don't know. And it was in June , not in September. In 2015, They had a big Modern Africa/Pulp table, local vendors were present. I had no idea Dueling Ground is gone. |

It was Hold the Line, but it is no more. I host a weekly group in Newmarket. One of our regular. players comes from Keseick. We don't play the games you mentioned (yet). Send me an email off line – we are open to new players. Mikemayes@rogers.com Or maybe I'll see you at Hot Lesd? Mike |

Hello, there is a group of us that still play on a semi-regular basis at Duelling Grounds, which still exists and is a quick drive/commute from Etobicoke. Typically we meet on Wednesday nights although we have a diverse set of interests which includes boardgames, historical/sci-fi/fantasty miniature games and our gaming can be sporadic at times. 15mm is the most common WW2 scale, I personally prefer the Battlegroup set of rules, but we've also played Iron Cross recently and Chain of Command in the past. If you can supply both sides then you should be able to find opponents. I agree that the Toronto gaming scene is rather disjointed, I know several groups and people that play in different parts of the city but there isn't not one central hub to find people. Best way to connect with us is at: link There's also this FB group that was started, not directly related to us but might be a way to find people: link |

Tony, I'm in Etobicoke and game WW2 in 20mm. I have a 5 x 9 gaming table and tons of terrain and miniatures. |

Hello Tony, Stephen and other potential players! I run one of the oldest wargaming clubs in the world. Located right here in Toronto for 52 years. The Napoleonic Miniatures Wargaming Society of Toronto. We have about 25 members located all over southern Ontario. We game one Sunday every month with an average of 6 players. We play mainly in 6mm covering Napoleonic's, French and Indian War, American War of Independence, War of 1812 and the American Civil War. The main focus is to have the maximum amount of fun with a group of players that enjoy the hobby while still offering exciting and challenging games. It's a winning formula that has lasted 52 years. Our rules are very simple to learn and will be published shortly by Baccus6mm. Our collection of figures is vast and we often have 5,000 plus figures on the table. I'm located at Port Union and the 401 in the east end of the city with quick access by car, Go Train and TTC. If any of this is of interest to you or you want to know more just ask or contact me at glennrpearce@hotmail.com Best regards, Glenn |

There are groups that meet in the Bayfield Mall several days a week. Large room sponsored by Sir Games A Lot. I play historical miniatures on Thursday nights (Lion/Dragon Rampant, DBA3.0 and whatever else catches our fancy.)I do know some of the fellows play Age of Sail, FOW, Fantasy etc.(miniatures and board games)I think on Monday or Tuesday night. There is a library of over 500 board games available to use for free. Also no charge to use the facilities. I'll check with the guys and see what nights/games are played. The drive to Barrie isn't that bad if you need a "fix". I'll post on Friday with contact info if you are interested |

I hate this system where items on the home page (where I go first) sink based on the time/date of the original post. Or so it seems. Glen Sounds interesting. The periods are out of my area but if you don't mind an occasional (once or twice a year) visit I would like to give it a try. Plus I am north but east of the city so a quick run down the 404. Thank you. Chazzmak I am in touch with that group. I am not available during the week but we are trying to set some things up for the occasional weekend. Right now for Sunday or Monday of the coming long weekend. Thank you. Stephen |

Hello Stephen! Nice to hear from you. I'm sure you will find it interesting, you might even get hooked. I started in board games. But yes once or twice a year is fine, that's actually what a number of members do. The club is divided into two basic groups, those who attend occasionally and those who are more regular. Send me your email address to mine noted above and I will put you on the club contact list. From there you can pick whatever date you want as the game dates are confirmed every month. You will also get an idea of what goes on and send me any questions that you might have. Best regards, Glenn |
