The intent of the PDF is to provide a preview of the game mechanics--not to give away a free rulebook.
That being said, I read the PDF this weekend over my morning coffee. I have to say that they have me stoked and made me pull the boxes of unassembled samurai and ashigaru off the top shelf of my hobby room.
The rules reflect the way that I think that personal combat should ebb and flow. Well, at least that what I *think* it should feel like since I've never actually had to face off against anyone wielding a katana.
I really appreciate the simplicity of the rules. What I DON'T want to do is memorize volumes of rules and special cases. Therefore, the idea of having a simple card for each figure and keeping track of its status on the card makes perfect sense. I can certainly see that multiplayer or convention games could use rosters instead of cards. In any case, cards/rosters keep the battlefield clean.
Rumor mill says that we should expect Test of Honor to be available for pre-order very soon; perhaps as soon as this week.
P.S.
Just in case you want to get ahead of the release and start painting, the base sizes are 25mm round for foot and 40mm round for cavalry.
P.P.S.
The PDF preview only addresses foot.
P.P.P.S.
There is a very, very active Facebook page for Test of Honor.
