I'm curious to see some pics of what people are using terrain-wise for their Team Yankee games.

Mako1103 Feb 2017 8:36 p.m. PST

Don't have any pics of it, yet.

Still working on a 1/144th Cold War setup, which can probably work for 1/285th and 1/100th too, with some mods, e.g. swapping out some roads, trees, buildings, etc..

Have the multi-toned, green, felt mat (6' x 12' – works for aerial combat games, and WWII as well), and evergreen trees (still basing some of those).

Bushes and/or hedges will probably be ground foam just scattered about, as desired.

Also, trying out different, low-budget paved and dirt road options, but some look promising.

Will probably go with paper/cardstock buildings at least at first, for most scales (I do have some 1/285th resin, metal, and plaster ones).

Hills will probably be under the felt mat.

Working on options for a stream, and/or river too. Streams are easy, but not sure how wide I want to make the river, so am interested in opinions for that (not planning to make the Rhine River, but a decent sized one for gaming that can work, preferably, for all three scales).

Any ideas on a good width for a representative river, for the above three scales?

When I finally get around to playing mine will look strangely like Southern Michigan when the Martians attacked in 1910.

The buildings will be European of course, but there will be rivers, woods, Hedges……

I did get a few of the the Battlefront modern roads though……

I have a company of Battlefront Soviet motor rifle troops and a box each of T-72 and BMPs finished, and working on some West Germans. While I doubt I'll be playing TY in the official scale much (I only have a 6x4 table), I did bought a HO scale model house by Faller. I've always liked Faller's houses, actually grew up building a few of them for my dad who is a N-scale model train guy.

Play in 20mm so I use model railway stuff, Faller, Noch etc

Same as my Flames of War gaming table, though I should probably chase down some large high-tension power lines.

TF 58,

Isn't a 6x4 table the official scale?

Part time gamer28 Feb 2017 1:09 a.m. PST

@PzGeneral
I dont think theres an "offical scale" for table size, IIRC 6x4 is more common in the UK, here in the US its been my experience 'most' gamers simply use a 'standard' 4x8 sheet of plywood.

@TF 58
as for your 'not' playing TY in the 'official scale much', it left me a bit confused. Im curious, are you building your forces using 285th or some other scale, or do you refer to using BF's TY models, but Changing the range/movement scales you use to game with?

@Mako11
I would LOVE to find someone that did some good quality plastics in 1/144 scale. That scale alone is kind of hard to find, and the ones I have found were pewter and $Costly.

Working on it;have green fleece blankets,a few 15mm,HO and N scale buildings ,some leftover "Dark Future" roads…

CanDo, Dragon, Pegasus, and Takara make some things in plastic.

Many of those are now OOP, but can be found with a bit of searching, usually on eBay.

Prices vary a lot, and shipping can be a deal killer, so I usually try to procure larger lots when those are available, and when people will combine shipping.

No sense getting a painted tank for $5.00 USD, and then spending $5 USD – $7 USD or more each, for shipping, on top of that.

Not sure what you are looking for, Part time gamer, but I do have some surplus M-1s (6, I think), plus a couple of diecast metal A-10s, and some other items too, e.g. pairs of AH-64s, and AH-1W Super Cobras, and telescoping flight stands to go with those. All of the above are brand new, and unused, so in great condition.

I've also got some surplus Takara Kursk and Battle of the Bulge WWII armor, if you are interested in older gaming as well. Again, all brand new.

I supplement the plastics with stuff from Minifigs, and other manufacturers, in metal, where needed.

I like the plastics, and am willing to pay slightly more for the already pre-painted and assembled minis, which are probably finished better than I can do on my own, since they're a real time-saver, and look great. They don't cost much more than unpainted, unassembled, metal minis, so for me, they're a bargain.

If you're interested in any of the above, just send me a note, and I'll see what I can do, at:

Here's a pic of my 1/144th terrain for West Germany.

A 3' x 3' sector of the area near the Inter-German Border with East Germany.

Need to add some more stuff, like: dirt roads and trails, or smaller paved roads; rivers or streams; fields; bushes; hedges; larger buildings for a small village;, etc., etc., and I want to create a full 6' x 12' gaming area.

I'm going with WRG 1950 for the rules, instead of TY.
