i still use the counter that came with the boxes of JRII. I found JRIII unplayable and i was not going to rebase 3 corps of troops |

I cut my teeth on JRII. For some reason I felt it played just like combat as described in Freeman's Lee Lieutenants. I did move to JRIII, in part because the 4 stands made the necessary table 20% bigger in real space. While I still play JRIII some (I've mainly moved to Carnage & Glory), for some reason I think JRII was better. But looking over the systems I cannot decide what makes me feel that way. Any thoughts on the distinctions? All that said, I'm looking at moving down to 3 stands and trying out Across A Deadly Field, again for the space reason and wanting to be able to do the first day of Gettysburg on a 60'x80' table – which will fit very well at 80yds/inch. |

JRII was cumbersome to me. JR3 was done to help streamline some of the phases in the game, simplify, is the word I am looking for. I have the rules for Across a Deadly Field and simply couldn't get into them. It seems more complex than what I am after. |

The basing in JR2 and the charge sequence is what finally did it for us. Played several games of JR3 and it seemed like it was design to compete with F&F scale wise. I didn't like the generic artillery in JR3. Many of the issues we had with JR2 wasn't addressed by JR3. |
