Stoessi's Heroes is coming out with a few new models soon.

One of them is going to be British Army Colonel David Stirling "Phantom Major":

If you want to read more about this remarkable guy, take a look here: link

Not that sure that he really did start the SAS. Anybody got better info?

Gear Pilot30 Jan 2017 5:07 p.m. PST

Every book about the SAS I ever read said he did.

If David Sterling did not form the SAS then it was not formed.

This is a beautiful figure.

I have been wanting a figure to represent him so I could have an SAS in my VBCW collection. It's hard to tell from the photos, is this a standard 28 mm figure not including the plinth?

Hey Bobgnar,

Yes, he is ~28mm. More on the heroic scale side thought, so I think he'll look too big next to Perry's miniatures, but he will look good next to Warlord, Artizan, etc.

Cheers,
Thomas

What "better info" can you have than multiple sources saying that he did found the SAS? Some 'alternative facts' maybe?

uglyfatbloke31 Jan 2017 5:16 a.m. PST

No; it was just a simple question. Any info at all was going to be more than I would know about, but I have been led to understand that Phantom Major (which is all I've read and that was getting on for 50 years ago) is not entirely reliable. That's not uncommon in biographies, especially those of heroic (or wicked) characters.
Love the figure; I can just see SWMBO getting one to lead her Canadians.

I am ready to buy. What do I do next? Thanks

ugly – read Rogue Heroes the new, authorised history of the SAS by Ben Macintyre. Success has many fathers, but there's no doubting Stirling was the key figure in this one…

Might do that. Really, it was just a passing bit of idle curiosity.

@Bobgnar

Just wait a few more weeks and it will be available at stoessisheroes.com/shop or at my resellers (http://stoessisheroes.com/resellers/).

Cheers,
Thomas

Good show Thomas.
SWMBO has now seen the pic and I have been given my orders accordingly.
