Sometimes you're prepared to spend a lot of money on buying 'official' figures of specific aliens races.
But sometimes, you have a bit of a brainwave and realise you can make your own.

The latest post on my blog shows how I made some 'blobby aliens' for my ongoing Doctor Who project, specifically ones that first appeared in 1972…

Thanks all. As Goat Major has noted, the TMP bug has struck, so I appear to have two threasds on the same topic, but with different commentators.

Floam, either commercially bought or home=made, is a very versatile material and because it's so lightweight and relatively strong once set, could be used to make far bigger figures or structures than what I've used it for here. However, I would advise using either a weighted base or some kind of wire armature if you're making a bigger figure/structure.
