This is the right wing, front line Swedish cavalry for my Breitenfeld project. Six squadrons of 24 figures each, mounted 3 troopers to a 60mm square base. All riders are the 1st Corps 28mm range that I commissioned back in 2001, when Phil Stirpe owned 1st Corps.
Horses are 50% 1st Corps and 50% Front Rank. This is for pose variety but also to reproduce the recorded variety between the tiny Nordic horses (1st Corps) and the larger horses acquired on the German Campaign (Front Rank).
Front line are (mainly) back & breast and helmet. Rear ranks are (mainly) riding jackets and soft hats. Helmets are eastern-style zischagge, not Dutch pots. Armour is non-silvered, matt black, as seen in Stockholm army museum, Vienna Army Museum and Leeds Royal Armouries. Buffcoats worn only by officers and are sleeveless.
Finns are dressed identically to other Swedish units. Riding coats are a mixture of five colours, where blue is the most common single colour but not the majority.
All painting by me.
If Richard Brzezinski's research is faulty, I'm stuffed!
