First Off, I have yet to see Rogue One, but have heard great things about it. It would be ironic, if the only SW film (so far) that did Not feature a jedi storyline won a Best Director award. That has yet to happen IIRC.
OK by no means should the "Jedi" dominate the Star Wars 'world', but it has a powerful drawing power all its own, both the 'who & what' they are about factor, and in box office.
But other than practically changing the entire SW Universe, some of us 'grew up with', which 'erked' me. I have to wonder:
What is this preoccupation with "wiping out the Jedi"?
First it was Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.
Then as I read the intro of The Force Awakens, and read "Luke Skywalker, the last jedi". All I could think was "Not AGAIN!?"
Like using the cliche' 'dream episode' in TV when they cant think of an intelligent way to solve a problem with a storyline. Make the entire situation a dream, it never happened. POOF And just start something new.
Well..we'll see where this goes.
