I'm looking for some recommendations of rules for my 6mm minis, which have the pike and shot all on the one 60mm x 30mm base. I.e the pike and shot elements can't be separated. I've tried Polemos and Armati, they were OK but didn't particularly appeal. I also have Regiment of Foote, which can be done but tracking casualties between pike and shot "bases" is a bit fiddly. I'm interested in Baroque and may grab a copy. Any other suggestions? PS, any rules which are suited to solo play will be a bonus |

I haven't read them yet, but Osprey just released a set I believe. |

Pikeman's Lament seems to be more of a large skirmish set |

Warlord's Pike and Shotte work well and you can used 'regimental' bases as there are no causality removal |

I'd certainly consider Baroque seriously. Quite fast play, I think you can pick up the rules very quickly and they use big bases with pike and shotte together. I am looking at doing my 16th century armies for these rules, which I just downloaded from Wargame Vault. |

We've been playing Baroque and it plays fairly quick, the big bases look great in 6mm and the learning curve is swift. |

Well, they are not out yet, but Simon Miller, obstructed (I mean assisted!) by me, is currently in the (hopefully!) final playtest version of the adapted To the Strongest rules, "for King and Parliament!' With luck, they should be out by the summer, and will work fine with 6mm figures. My own collection is 10mm, and a number of playtesters are using 28s. Mollinary |

Take a look at Neil Thomas One hours wargames? A little too simplistic for me Warlord's Pike and Shotte work well Doesn't Pike and Shotte have separate pike and musket units? I'll have a look at the suggestions, thanks guys |

Doesn't Pike and Shotte have separate pike and musket units? It does but CuChulan (aka Wargames designs) has put together stats for combined units: linkWe used them in our games of Pike and Shotte (only played a couple of times) and thought they worked well. Cuchulann also does away with the 'hedgehog' special rule and just disallows cavalry to charge combined units in the front. If cavalry get around the flank though… look out! |

Piquet's Hostile Realms (while a fantasy set) works really well for the Pike and Shot era. I have played a few games of it at conventions and enjoyed it. It also works well for solo play. |

Shardik Try these auction Played on a gridded board – bit like chess – easy to play, but to master you have to think like a period general I have a review copy for the P&S society [just need to finish the review] But very impressed with them & the author has been easy to communicate with |

Tercio looks very interesting to me. I am so tempted to pick it up even though I haven't gotten into the period in a big way yet. |

DBR isn't a bad set. Not exactly flavour of the month now, but they work ok, and they are quite easy to adapt to solo play. There was a De Bellis Solitudinus variant of DBA on the old Fanaticus website which covered solo DBA very well, and is very easy to scale up to DBR. |

For Pike & Shotte rules use the stats for the late 17th century and Pike Company rule |

Hi Shardik, "Gott mit uns!" Caters for your one base per unit and solo play, having a unique and unpredictable movement system. Otherwise fast play and easy to pick up. |

just started using Baroque for my 6mm ECW battles and I absolutely love the rules, best I've come across. |

The link for solo play DBA here: link Not tried it yet, but looks like it could probably work for DBR and even systems outside the DBA family. |
