Hello,

I have DBN (that I actually like) and Black Powder (that I like too).

With 18 stands for DBN (roughly 10 infantry bases 4x2 cm, 5 cavalry and 3 artillery) I cannot say I have a lot of figures, but nevertheless, what other rules could I play?

Ideal rules would be (with all due proportions):
-within a 3 hours game
-good command and control mechanism (like BP a lot for this)
-do not require a high figure count (have only 18 stands max a side)
-and, err,… possibly fun? :)

thank you

There is "Horse, Foot, & Guns" by Phil Barker. Similar game mechanics to DBN, but more detailed. It is available here: link

Then, there is DBA-HX, originally the Humberside DBA extention, but updated in 2015 with DBA 3.0 mechanics. It is available free here: PDF link

Bloody Big Battles. You;d have to adjust the ground scale to your basing but otherwise would be useful for laods of 19th century games, not just Napoleonics.

Neil Thomas' Simplicity in Practice, which is available in Battlegames magazine, issue 23, which is available on WargameVault in PDF form.

Are you completely opposed to painting more figures so you would have something like a double or triple sized DBA army?

I have very little time for painting, so collecting a much bigger army is only a distant future reality. I am now realistic about project completion :/

DBA-HX is based on 12 element armies. While HFG uses a point system, a corps of French is (depending on the year & theater) a command party, 8-12 stands of infantry, 2-3 guns, and 1-3 stands of cavalry. Both of these rules would allow you to play with the troops you have available.

Neil Thomas's 'One Hour Wargames' may also be of interest. Each side only has six units at most.

would it be possible to play Polemos?

to follow up, I have bought
-Snappy Nappy
-Rank & File
-Tremble Ye Tyrant
-Field of Battle

They look playable with DBN bases
