The second battle of an FPW campaign I'm noodling with. It turned out to be a great contest with both sides adding units who marched to the sound of the guns. You can read about it at Carnival Empire |

Nicely done! Agree that there is just something about a campaign – loved the "march to the sound of the guns" |

I've been eagerly anticipating this – great to see your campaign taking off. Let's hope that after their bloody repulse the Germans don't call a truce! Chris Bloody Big BATTLES! link bloodybigbattles.blogspot.co.uk |

French units marching to the sound of the guns? Next will be flying pigs! |

I was amazed myself. The campaign rules make it much more difficult for the French to respond to battles. Essentially you need to roll a 6 followed by a 5 or 6 in the two tests you have to take (one to get it near the battle, the other to actually engage.) There's roughly a 0.15% chance of that happening twice in a row so this was truly an (almost) 1 in a thousand event. |

+1 for vtsaogames. French units marching to the sound of the guns? Next will be flying pigs! Just goes to show that it is hard to recreate appropriate tactics and operational art when the players are smarter than the original commanders. Although it appears it was a result of "exceptional die rolling" on the part of the French commander(s). So at least the Prussians can blame this on fantastic luck by the French. Jim |
