…Bottles Found in London .

"British archaeologists have found a treasure trove of Victorian condiment bottles and jam jars beneath a former nightclub, according to the Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA).

Over 13,000 bottles of historic ketchup, pickle pots and marmalade jars were found in the heart of Soho, where the Astoria nightclub once stood.

The nightclub was demolished in 2011 during the construction of Crossrail's new Elizabeth line station at Tottenham Court Road, which is due to open in December 2018.

The work revealed the club's clients were partying above the remains of a Crosse & Blackwell factory which manufactured popular sauces, condiments and jams from 1838 until 1921.

The archaeologists unearthed kilns, furnaces, a refrigeration system and cisterns originally used to power the steam engines. However, when the factory was redesigned in the 1870s, the cisterns were taken out of use and turned into a dumping ground for the pots…"

Good timing on the story. Went out to eat a late dinner with my daughter last evening after her high school swim meet. She ordered a soda, sandwich and fries. While waiting for our order to arrive, she made her customary check of the ketchup bottle to make sure there was enough. She then went to a neighboring vacant table to "borrow" its ketchup bottle.

We tease her about ketchup being one of her major food groups. We have even joked about getting her a CamelBak Hydration system and filling it with ketchup.

Cosmic,
It is not counted as a vegetable in ANY FDA sanctioned menu.
up to 2 tablespoons of Tomato PASTE(not ketchup) on a pizza can count towards the weekly vegetable allowance , But it is merely 1 of dozens of ingredients that can count .

The same way that according to regulations pasta counts as a bread, but enriched flour bread does not .

US prison systems have to follow FDA menu/nutritional guidelines as do schools (though somewhat different ones ).

There was an attempt in the 1980's to get a higher level of paste allowed but it failed as did the one in 2011.
