So as I've mentioned earlier some of our local group are starting to collect miniatures for the Great Northern War. (I'm building Saxons) Right now we are shopping around for a suitable set of rules. I'm a big fan of the old WRG 1686-1845 rules, but am doubtful I could convince the rest of the group to settle on them! ;-) One set we all agree look promising is Gå På. I've downloaded the 2nd edition text and after reading them we've decided to set up a couple of test games using them. I personally like the concepts behind them, and the mechanics look sound enough. It's a rules set that I "want to like". Time will tell… The problem is that all the various charts needed to play are scattered through the text of the rules and there is no quick reference sheet. Thus my question is this: are there any quick reference sheets out there for Gå På? I've done a cursory look online and have not found one. Has anyone compiled one? |

I'm pretty sure one comes with a printed copy of the rules. It looks like there is a GaPa playsheet in the Yahoo group – not sure whether it's current. |

The PDF version I bought did not come with one. I can't speak to the printed copy. A friend of mine tried to join the Gå På Yahoo group last week. Sadly he has not gotten a reply yet. I wonder if it's a dead group… |

The Yahoo group is very cold to the touch. I am at work right now but our group has a QRS set up for version 2 of the rules. Please e-mail me direct and I will send you a copy tonight. dmebust at Yahoo dot com for anyone interested in a copy. It is a very fun set of rules. We were big fans of version one. We were part of the play test team for version 2 as well as a wonderful campaign system which failed to make it to market, pity. We are always ready to answer questions if folks need. |

I just found it. PDF link My Google-foo was just not good enough last time! ;-) Ah well. Thanks anyway! I'll keep your email in case we have any questions about the rules. As I noted above, I'm looking forward to trying them. |

Very nice reports. Pretty as well! I especially dig the Step Loss markers you made. I'd steal that idea from you in a second if I were playing this in 28mm. As it stands now, I have plans to use 15mm casualty figures mounted on pennies for the same purpose. I assume the D4s are what you used for the General's command points? |

Yes, that is correct. I see a lot of folks who have casualty bases with a slot for a 6-sider in them now. |

If you are just starting this period, take a look at the revised "Twilight of the SunKing" rules from the Pike and Shotte Society. Innovative mechanism, with no shooting or melee calculations, everything is subsumed into an evaluation of a unit's morale. It's a brigade level game, very suitable for recreating large battles for the period 1680 to 1720 (and can be extended beyond). My group has played Blenheim, Ramillies, Landemn, Ughrim etc. Rules can be used with any bases, as all movement etc is in "Base Widths" which you can define. We play with 10 mm figures on 60 mm x 30 mm bases, two of these make up a brigade. Quite big batles can be played on a 6x4; our Landen game was on a 9x5 table, but that was a battle representing 80000 French and 50000 Allies pikeandshotsociety.org Scroll doepwn the page to find Publications and Merchandise. |

Another vote for Twilight of the Sun King. |

If you like the WRG, then you will like the level of detail in GaPa. There is a LOT of period flavor. While I prefer Twilight of the Sun King also, they are very different rule sets. GaPa would take me too log to play large battles, and I don't have the time for that, but for smaller actions, GaPa would be quite fun. I would say they are at different ends of the spectrum. Both great rules though. |
