I have early war Fallschirmjagers to use in Dad's Army type games.

The Foundry range has for support some HMGs and a light mortar.

Was anything heavier than these available for troops actually parachuted in and, if so, what models would you suggest that would fit in with the size of Foundry figures?

The 10.5 cm LG40/1 recoilless gun.

And the Panzerbuchse 41 anti-tank gun.

I think the 8cm mortar was available via air drop as well, but don't quote me on that.

Edit: Yep, it was the 8.8cm Granatwerfer 42, the lightweight short-barreled version of the Granatwerfer 34 specially developed for the Fallschirmtruppen. I don't know who makes one though.

It's not 100% clear, but I think OP wants support weapons suitable for summer/fall 1940. Neither the 75mm or 105mm recoiless guns fills this bill. Same for PzB41 and the stumpfmortar. The Foundry FJS have the option of the PzB39. The other possible support weapons are 81mm mortar and 75mm ig18. Warlord makes the first and their ig18 is nice, but does not come with FJ crew. Blacktree does have an FJ ig18; I felt compelled to add sights to the gun model. HTH.

Thanks for the replies. Indeed, it is more early war I am looking at. I am not sure if the uniforms of the Foundry figures woukd do for later war. I am intending to paint them ias eaely war.

I don't think that Black Tree figures would sit comfortably alongside Foundry.

Warlord do an FJ crew for their pak 40. They are extraordinarily accommodating about giving you extra/variant crew. Maybe get the ig18 and ask about buying/switching the FJ crew.

For early war, you are basically looking at standard infantry support, tripod MG34, 8cm and 5cm mortars and maybe 75mm Infantry guns (although I think they were glidered in, as were Pak 36).

Perrys make a small range of early/mid war FJ that might work with Foundry models:

The support weapons include:
- anti-tank rifle
- 5 cm mortar
- 7.5 cm recoilless gun
- 8 cm mortar
- sPzB 41 anti-tank gun
- MG on tripod (for some reason MG42 and not MG34, though)

Thanks, I had forgotten about the Perrys. Their figures will fit nicely with Wargames Foundry as it is they who sculpted the WWII range.

What equipment in the Perry range was capable of being air-dropped, as opposed to landed by glider (of course, that could be a different game scenario altogether where Capt. Mainwaring and his team are guarding a local airstrip!)?

Any suggestions as to a suitable model for a German Glider in 28mm?

Good point from Jeff…Warlord have been immensely helpful with our projects; could n't ask for a better service.

Any suggestions as to a suitable model for a German Glider in 28mm?

Scale up a paper model?

alan L26 Jan 2017 10:22 a.m. PST

Yes, I see that Fiddlers Green do a paper model.

Thanks again.
