What self-propelled artillery did the Germans use at Stalingrad?

Also, what were the most common German tanks used at Stalingrad?

The Panzer divisions with 6th Army were the 14th, 16th and 24th, none of which were listed as receiving Czech equipment, so in late 1942 you should have a mix of Pz III and Pz IV, with maybe a few Pz II still on the books for recon, and maybe some of the III's and IV's would be "long." But it's never safe to bet on German armor composition without studying particular divisions. All kinds of little surprises.

There is an old thread here on that very subject.

How did I find it? Simply whacked into google (without speech-marks) "german tanks at stalingrad"
Though be aware that google does tailor results on your past search history.

In short, about about 3/5ths of the tanks there were panzer 3's with long 50mm guns. This ties up well with the general rule that the PZ3 was the main combat tank up to Kursk,
SPGs seem to be a more hazy situation. But STuGs f is though to be the most common and 2 photos of the the box type Marders on Panzer 2D hulls has been shown in a link from that thread.

Also present were the sIG 33B, carrying a 15cm howitzer on a PzIII chassis. Designed to be used in street fighting, it was not really a success due to poor visibility, limited gun traverse and cramped fighting compartment.

Yes, Stalingrad ws one of the few theatres which saw the sIG33b used. V. small numbers though.

The Brumbar turned up in 1943 and fulfilled the role instead.

I believe the artillery regiments for all the panzer and panzergrenadier divs was towed, no Wespe or Hummel yet.

The Panzergrenadier infantry gun companies would mainly have a platoon of SP 150mm guns though. Grilles do the job, but I'm not sure what they actually had in late 42.

Glantz's Stalingrad trilogy will have the official German AFV strength as recorded in the returns of the individual divisions and 6 Army reports.

I wish I still had my copies.

HIGHLY recommended.

I just got finished reading "Tank Warfare on the Eastern Front 1941-1942" It gives details on the numbers and types of vehicles each Pz Div had and those available to AOK 6 in Stalingrad. Good detail on the operational level and the logistical failings of both sides. 1.99 USD on kindle. Of course later in the battle German vehicle all became pill boxes as the fuel ran out.
