"The Indian Army is set to deploy over 460 new T-90SM main battle tanks (MBTs) along India's border with Pakistan, senior Indian defense officials told IHS Jane's Defense Weekly on January 19. The new T-90SM MBT (other designations T-90AM or T-90MS) is the latest and most modern version of the T-90 (which in turn is a modernized variant of the T-72 MBT), and has specifically been designed for export by Russia. According to IHS Jane's Defense Weekly, the newly ordered MBTs will supplement 850-900 license-built T-90S Bhishma tanks, divided into 18 regiments, and currently deployed in the Indian states of Rajasthan and Punjab. It is unclear how many T-90S and T-90SM in total are currently in service with the Indian Army. (Estimates vary from 800 to 1,200 MBTs in various stages of operational readiness.) May be a dumb move considering Pakistan has nukes and I bet are willing to use them. Would not hurt my feelings if India did roll into Pakistan. |

I suspect if they go to war, it will remain conventional, since India has nukes too, and may have more of them (not 100% sure on the latter, but that'd be my guess). China's been moving troops and equipment in the region too, so things are a bit interesting on that side of the world. |

Yeah both sides have nucs … but they will most likely stay conventional. If the ballon goes up. Another point … @ 20% of the world is Indian. So they could take the losses if need be. I'd think … And BTW India's Chinese neighbors is @ 20% of the world's pop too … |

It's hard for me to imagine what rational leaders on either side think they can gain from a full-blown conflict that, if it went nuclear, would leave their major cities and/or military forces obliterated. Is even Kashmir worth it? |

Most likely they'd never nuc each other. But it does bother me a bit. That appears there are a number of islamists in Pakistan. With even some may being in the gov't it seems. However, Based on militant fundamentalist, radical islam's jihadi "kill all infidels" predilections. Just like the possibility of Iran getting nucs. I see that groups believing if they are martyred and go to paradise by killing infidels. Many times gives me some concern. And as I have said before, with Nucs – it is a 0 – Sum game. |

Interesting comment on the likelihood of what might spark a nuclear exchange between India and Pakistan. link And this article investigates the potential fall-out from a 100-nuke exchange. link Personally, I would suspect that the UK and US would support India if a nuclear exchange was inevitable, but it would be interesting to see how that would go down with the large Pakistani Muslim populations in those two countries. |

I'm not sure "most" are rational, given some of the stuff we read about or see in the news. There are many, many islamists in Pakistan, and yes, some/many are in the government. Apparently, their intelligence services are rife with them, if news reports are accurate. |

I would suspect that the UK and US would support India I do agree … mostly because the US and UK are in a GWOT … islamic terrorism. Not Hindu or Buddhist, etc., terrorism. Plus I find it very unlikely some in the Pak leadership/gov't did not know UBL built a Safe House and was living there for quite a long time. Not to mention, IIRC, Mullah Omar was hiding out there until he died of cancer or something. I would have been happier if he and a bunch of his cronies had been Droned. And it is pretty sure AQ's AZH and some of UBL's adult son(s) are there as well with other AQ scum. Hopefully when intel is good enough. Both those savages and their retinues, etc., will be removed by Drones. And if the Paks don't like it. They can complain to the UN. Plus IMO any support the US gives to the Paks should be stopped immediately. Last I looked those millions could go a long way to "cure" a few of the ills in the USA.
Apparently, their intelligence services are rife with them, if news reports are accurate. That that is what I've heard from a number of sources. IIRC the Paks and Saudis have a good relationship. And as we know for decades the US has not had the stones to tell the terrorist supporting Saudis to pound sand. Seems the US may not want to upset the Saudis by not treating their buddies the Paks very well. Geopolitics at it's "best" … |
