I may also be able to help with your questions. I played the rules for years and worked closely for awhile with the authors. |

Hi first thing I would like to know is this at the beginning of the game when rolling for command points it says -8 to rolls? Next question we are doing a refight of Aspen Essling and the French have a lot of lights on the out skirts of the towns behind hedges, would light fall back if attacked by formed troops, but in the rules lights get a +1 for being in towns?. Thank you |

Reading in Napoleon Conquers Austria the Leger held the woods near Aspen all day from attacks by lights and formed troops, if they where not able to the Austrians would have driven them back. Also in the formal gardens around Essling was held by the 3rd Leger all day from attacks. So can light's hold woods and towns from formed troops if they are in cover?. |

Been silently following this thread. As no one has piped up with an official answer, here are my thoughts based on historical precedent. Formed troops would quickly become unformed attacking into any built up area or thick wood. In this environment, where essentially everyone is reduced to fighting in small groups, trained lights would have an advantage. Another thought to keep in mind is that French, British, and most other countries' light infantry were capable of fighting in formation as well as in skirmish order. If it is a matter of how the unit is deployed in the game, I suggest than any unit would have to break down to skirmish order to enter towns or woods. Hope that at least sparks some discussion on how this is handled in the rules. |
