Temporary like Achilles29 Jan 2017 3:12 a.m. PST

As the TLA referred to before, I absolutely reject the implication that I was 'given a talking to' about my 'forum behaviour' and then had my account unlocked because I had nodded along deferentially.

There was a personal message from the editor asking what I meant when I'd said in this thread that he'd 'been hoist by his own petard.' I replied, explaining that his criticism of A E Curtis for driving advertisers away applied equally to himself, hence the use of the expression.

I then made my farewell, saying that he should listen to some of the people who have given him advice here.

The editor now appears to have unlocked my account. That would be neither here nor there, because having an account locked for the innocuous statement I had made before had annoyed me enough already to sign out and not come back.

But that he has had the gall to imply that I had been given a lecture about my behaviour and on account of that seen the error of my ways and apologised, grovelled, or otherwise begged to have my account unlocked is completely wrong.

See you around.
Aaron

Thanks for the clarification TLA. I suspect you'll now be locked for divulging details of a private conversation but I somehow doubt you'll be too upset by that.

Looks like the EiC has lost at least 3 long-standing forum members just from this one thread.

TLA, for many years the SOA link man with TMP. Never Doghoused iirc, never joined in with any of the 'drama' either. Always thoughtful and well worth reading on wargaming stuff. From what I know of Broglie and Mashrewba both concentrated on history and gaming too.

So lads, you will be missed.

Wow, petard hoisting is now an actionable offense on TMP…who knew?

"Perchance he for whom this bell tolls may be so ill, as that he knows not it tolls for him; and perchance I may think myself so much better than I am, as that they who are about me, and see my state, may have caused it to toll for me, and I know not that."

Take care, Aaron.

Such bullying. Most people would react like Mashrewba – I know no other forum where people get temporarily locked so the owner can "have a conversation with them about their forum behavior".

I find it gets people's attention. These are borderline cases where I want to talk to them before I make the final decision about permanently locking their account.

According to Broglie, he has been trying getting in contact with you but without success. Maybe there's some technical problem?

Maybe he sent me an email. I need to catch up on email.

I absolutely reject the implication that I was 'given a talking to' about my 'forum behaviour' and then had my account unlocked because I had nodded along deferentially.

Where did I make any such claim? We spoke, you explained, I decided to unlock your account.

But that he has had the gall to imply that I had been given a lecture about my behaviour and on account of that seen the error of my ways and apologised, grovelled, or otherwise begged to have my account unlocked is completely wrong.

I said no such thing.

Bill's actions on this thread and in the last year and his longstanding inability to listen to anybody (even when he ASKS for opinions, such as this thread) is why TMP will never see another dime of my money. But there's no "proof" it's him so it must be the economy, or something else, right? Sigh…

'I find it gets people's attention.' – I'm cringing… much better to have the conversation before locking the account… it seems to have cost this time…

'Maybe he sent me an email. I need to catch up on email.'

Now I'm just curling into a figurative ball…

Good communication and empathy with your customers are the bedrock of a successful business of whatever kind, or did I miss something ?

I'm cringing… much better to have the conversation before locking the account…

Speaking from experience, the reverse is true.

Now I'm just curling into a figurative ball…

Why? You should see how much email I get…

Could the assistant editors help you keep up to date with email?

Realistically, I don't think so.

I'm sure things like subscriptions could be automated like other sites.

Yes, that's a nice project for a future day.

GarrisonMiniatures29 Jan 2017 5:06 p.m. PST

'Speaking from experience, the reverse is true.'

Possibly true from your point of view, not true from the public perspective.

'Why? You should see how much email I get…'

Because 'I have not received a reply to my PM to broglie yet.'

Not 'I haven't checked to see if I have received a reply.' – or, at least, a slightly more diplomatic version of this.

Your reply suggests that you have checked and that Broglie hadn't replied. May not have replied, or reply could be lost in espace – but you don't know that. So making the definite statement that you hadn't received a reply, followed by a statement that you hadn't actually checked…

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian29 Jan 2017 8:13 p.m. PST

You are confusing PMs and emails.

GarrisonMiniatures29 Jan 2017 11:56 p.m. PST

'You are confusing PMs and emails.'

Yes and no. I wasn't differentiating between them – both need checking before making a definite statement, the statement needs qualifying.

However, point taken. A reply to a PM would normally be a PM.

It's almost the end of February – will we be losing the part time Editors as you advised, or have finances stabilised sufficiently to keep them on in some capacity for a while longer?
