Salutations, gentlefolk, Noted there are several nations in the DBA lists, in Eastern Anatolia, the Caucasus, and the mountains of Iran – 1-62 Lykian, 2-14 Ariarathid Kappadokian, 2-28 Early Armenian, 2-37 Parthian (Hyrkanian mountaineers), 2-69B Sassanid Persian (hillmen), 3-4 Early Byzantine (Isaurians), 3-27 Rshtuni Armenian – whose armies have horsemen in shining armor to ride the flatlands and 3 Ax in subdued colors to hold the hills. So: First, can I morph a dozen figures to serve in all these armies, or are some LMI sufficiently distinctive to draw disapproving comments if not accurately depicted ? Second, suggestions for suppliers of these figures, 15mm, in size compatible with Outpost or Old Glory ? Thanks for your help with this. |

I can only answer the first question for you. There will always be the disapproving comment crowd. I suggest not playing with them, and hang out with the cool kids who think it's a great idea instead. |

I think it is more about what you want rather than others. There are distinctive features of some of these but if you want to go bland and generic then you don't need anyone's permission! The Lykians are likely to be the ones which wouldn't fit – they probably didn't wear trousers. There may have been distinctive hats for e.g. the Kappadokians but bare-headed would be more flexible. You'd have to make the choice between shield type – probably between the oval thureos or a smallish round one. You could always use OGs Armenian javelinmen. |

I would go for generic tunic-and-trousers infantry, hatless (hats and helmets tend to be quite distinctive) with small to medium sized round shields. Again, oval shields tend to be more restrictive in use. Can't suggest figures – don't use 15mm. |

Minifigs has an bareheaded Armenian javelinman with a small round shield. Amusingly the commentary on the Armenians in the DBA 3 list noted them as thureophoroi. Haven't really decided what other figures to use for these and other armies of the area and time period. I only have 15 of these so need 21 more for BBDBA or other armies. Xyston Paphlagonians have a Thracian/Scyth style headgear. But do have the thureos. Donnington has some Sassanian javelinmen in a fur vest with a helmet and small round. Picked some up a while back for the Sassanians and as an alternate for other area armies. Outpost Wargaming Services has a bareheaded Daylami javelinman with no shield in their Crusades range I have also picked up for use in the region. I may add shields to some. |

Addendum – Viking Forge has a figure very similar to the Minifig Armenian in their Sassanid range – bareheaded javelinman with a small round shield. |
