I am going on holiday for two weeks. I let my ex-wife clean the house and check on the cat. But, I am certain she resents my hobby and may well give all my miniatures away to a charity shop whilst I am gone! Giving all my terrain and games away?

Does anyone have this problem or do you think she really could be the cold-hearted lady I divorced?

Best regards,

Jabsen

Whoops! A double post ;-)

Jabsen -- exactly which charity shop might that be?

Jabsen Krause18 Jan 2017 6:28 p.m. PST

Lol! dBerczerk, I know she would not tell me.

I knew of a guy who saved every comic book he'd ever bought, starting in the 1930's. Had a special room built for them. Came back from a business trip to find his wife had thrown them all away.

Jabsen Krause18 Jan 2017 6:37 p.m. PST

Good grief! Poor guy. Hafen von Schlockenberg, think it's best to tell her that I have quit miniature gaming, sold everything, have no interest in returning to the hobby, and hide everything away, under lock and key!

Best regards,

Jabsen

Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut18 Jan 2017 6:38 p.m. PST

Why would you let your ex-wife anywhere near your home?

Wackmole918 Jan 2017 6:39 p.m. PST

If your divorced. Take pictures/video of your stuff and if its gone when you get back. You can have her arrested.

Jabsen Krause18 Jan 2017 6:52 p.m. PST

The damn cat Coyotepunc and Hatshepsuut! It's hers but he decided to remain with me after she left.

Wise words Wackmole9! Thank you.

Best regards,

Jabsen

Yep, seems a bit daft to even let her have access to your stuff.

You're divorced, so I think that probably answers your question, since most people on good terms are still together.

Deliver the cat to her to have her watch over it at her home, and change the locks on your doors.

Jabsen Krause18 Jan 2017 7:16 p.m. PST

Great advice. Thank you Mako11. Will take great measures so she knows nothing about my hobby. Feel sorry for little Munchkin but it won't be that long. New locks are on my to do list!

Best regards,

Jabsen

You're divorced and you don't trust her. So don't let her near your personal space.

Get someone else to check on your cat -- even a professional cat-walker.

You're only to be gone for two weeks, so you don't need to have your place cleaned. There will just be dust and cat fur. Take care of it when you get home.

You're going on vacation. Don't take worries with you. They'll interfere with your suntan and your appreciation of cocktails with umbrellas.

Jabsen Krause18 Jan 2017 7:21 p.m. PST

Such wisdom Oberlindes Sol LIC. Cannot have such stress interfering with such important things! ;-)

But. Just in case, the guys will organise a 24 hour surveillance of your place so that, when she DOES throw all your stuff out, we'll be there to make sure it goes to multiple good homes.

There's no need to burden the garbage disposal guys which such stuff, now is there? And please, let me thank you in advance for this act of charity.

(grab some bags gentlemen, there's free stuff incoming! Yaowzah!)

Rottcodd18 Jan 2017 7:51 p.m. PST

You know, if she does donate all your gaming stuff to charity, you can start collecting again! But this time you'll be focused on just a couple periods, and all in one scale. And, since you are wiser than when you first started gaming, you will only buy as much lead/plastic as you can paint, and won't have a lead pile! I think it's a good idea to give you ex access to your house while your gone. ;)

Pack all the stuff into one out-of-the-way room. Remove all evidence of a door and seal the opening with drywall. Paint wall to match (you want to make it look like there was never a room there.)

p.s. Be careful not to seal the cat into the room. Doing so defeats the whole purpose… ;-)

I don't even like my ex-wife knowing where I live, let alone come over. I'm not entirely sure my kids understand how big of a deal it was to have her over for my oldest sons high school graduation. I was half expecting there to be gun play, sounds like a joke but that's how her father got some interesting facial scars and a new set of dentures.

I don't trust the little beggars. They are always betraying me…

Cattery to give the cat a holiday, change locks to ensure security…

When I was a kid I noticed some toys and model kits tended to vanish, I thought they had simply been misplaced until I assembled an Airfix set that vanished two days later. And it reappeared in the hands of the neighbour's kids.

"You silly boy, you haven't played with those in years !" My grandmother answered with a straight face when I asked her about it. Turns out she binned quite a few kits, sometimes mere days after I finished them, convinced I wasn't interested in them any more …

Thank you Narratio, eoschmitz, Zephyr1, whitphoto, dragon6, GarrisonMiniatures and Patrick R! Gosh, a spelling test in itself.

Best regards,

Jabsen

In all seriousness, were she to do something like that, she would be liable for thousands of dollars of damages.

There are divorces and *divorces* Unless you parted on very hostile terms, I would think that something spiteful like that would be very unlikely. If you did part non very bad terms, then I would agree that allowing her access to your belongings would seem unwise; why risk it?

(I am happily married x 34 years, so I speak only by second hand experience, and hope to keep it that way!)

Stepman320 Jan 2017 4:33 a.m. PST

I think it's awesome you get your ex-wife to still come over and clean your house…Friends with benefits…I doubt she's going to toss all your stuff out…just bring her home a nice "thank you" gift…

14Bore21 Jan 2017 2:57 p.m. PST

I have had this evil thought for no reason, some of my miniatures have been around a few years longer than the wife so I would be a bit upset.
