Hound -- I don't know if you are aware or not, but a lot of cap and ball revolvers were converted to fire cartridges after the civil war. |

I think there is a scene in the Quck and the Dead where someone loads a LeMat revolver in preparation for the duel competition. |

Not sure why you want to see that happening, but if it helps, there are a ton of videos on you tube showing how a cap n ball revolver is loaded / reloaded |

I think I may have seen a Colt or Remington cap/ball piece in "The Quick And The Dead" too,Patrick. Also, some kept extra pre-loaded cylinders in a pouch. |

I am pretty sure that I recall Clint Eastwood reloading with an extra cylinder in "Pale Rider." The problem for movies and television with cap and ball revolvers is that the reloading process is pretty slow, and they usually are unwilling to devote that much time. I do remember that they managed to work it into one episode of the "Laramie" TV series. |

I think the "assumption" is that the majority of cap-n-ball revolvers you see in most Western films are indeed the later gate-cut conversions. An easy tell is they either have the ramming handle or they have the plunger sleeve. I've seen a few Civil War style films where they do the "replace the cylinder" reload for proper cap-n-ball handguns. It was also a reason that raiders frequently carried as many pistols as they could carry. |

Did they carry the cylinder capped? That might have led to some interestng accidents. |

Yes, Clint Eastwood used one in Pale Rider. It is in the last scene with the corrupt marshall. Also, I beleive he used one in A Fistful of Dollars. |
