So vikings are barbarians and since barbarians according to D&D can't use medium and heavy armor (only light) all vikings are forced to use less then practical random leather. Saxons haven't invented paint or any covering for their shields. But they do have mail armor (high medieval mail armor) a few look like 12th century knights with their quasi surcoats over mail. Even rich Lords can't afford much in color dyes. So udyed clothing is fit for kings. Viking kings and Lords like to stay behind the action on horses. The Baddenburg fort doesn't have a single Archer on the wall letting any tom, dick and Harald ride up and throw severed heads at the front door and ride away unmolested. Uthred found a saxon smith trained by the best smiths from World of war craft and got a sword worthy of a night elf. The dane axe apperantly was not used by the danes. |

I liked the books but nothing in the TV show looks the way I envisioned it. This goes double for Uthred. I guess they were going for Olrando Bloom. Anyway, I's been a while since I read the first part of the series and I wanted to like the TV show but…meh. |

Alfred is well cast and acted…the rest is not very well done. |

Agreed on the casting, for the most part. But I still enjoyed the show. Not as much as I enjoy "Vikings" though. |

Didn't like Uthred at first – but he's growing on me. Historical inaccuracies – this is popular drama so par for the course. |

I bailed after 5-6 episodes |

I quite enjoy it, its not a good source of uniforms – like Vikings is also guilty of- but at least it tries to create a sort of feeling for the period, and seems to be generally following A-S chronicle history to some degree! |

Yeah, it's a shame. I expected better from the BBC, particularly since Cornwell did his homework writing the books. |

Have you only just seen it? It came out in 2015, there were loads of threads on here about it at the time. People who make TV programmes don't make them for wargamers who think they're historians, they are made to entertain normal people. |

They're currently showing it on the Beeb – so it's catch up time. |

Anyone have any news on season 2? |

I though it was great fun and Alfred was excellent. However, as noted above, it was on TV two years ago. |

Anyone have any news on season 2? It is returning sometime in 2017, on BBC2 and NetFlicks, apparently. |

For God's sake get a life, it is a TV series not a historical recreation.Don't like it, don't watch it! |

I was watching it again the other night and noticed a car speeding across an evening landscape shot in the distance. Oh dear. Still looking forward to season 2 though. |
