I am currently building armies for the early Italian Wars, 1494-1515, in 15mm. I am currently moving on to the Spanish in Italy and am looking for suitable figures.

I am hoping some of our very knowledgeable readership can comment upon the suitability of the above mentioned range of figures for Italy. I have ordered a few packs and some of the figures are perfect for the continent. I am wondering about the figures attired in what appears to be a sort of padded gambeson. Khurasan is very clear that some of their figures aren't suitable for Europe and I am wondering whether this lighter and probably cooler type of protection was adopted in the New World to replace heavier armour and therefore would be unsuitable for Europe. Having said that, I'm sure I've seen pics of similar figures in 28mm being fielded in Italy.

I have tried Googling under a number of search terms but couldn't find an answer.

All comments would be greatly appreciated.

a sort of padded gambeson

It's supposed to be native cotton armour so it wouldn't be likely in Europe. That said paint it as a gambeson and use them if you want.

Given the plethora of good Italian Wars figures you are spoiled for choice.

Thanks for the response OB. That's what I thought.

Not sure I agree with your "given the plethora of good Italian Wars figures…". There are a few ranges available in 15mm but they tend to be fairly limited in terms of troop types and lack variety within the range. Compared to the offerings available to our 28mm brethren, we are underwhelmed with choice. Hopefully, the Venexia range will return sooner than later and fill in a few gaps.

Old Glory are not too bad. Can't wait for Venexia to come back on the market

I do like Venexia.

Here is a mix of manufacturers Spanish swordsmen from Black Hat, Essex and Jacobite others make them too.
