My FLGS has sadly closed after a long and loved operation. Many of us still game and try to find space to game, but that is rather difficult. I suggested a while back to our group that we rent out a space (say every Saturday) with club members paying dues that cover the cost of the space. Now, how do I go about finding a suitable club space for say maybe 5 6x4 tables? I don't think I am wording this right for google. I live in Austin TX. Thanks. |

If you have enough guys who can commit to the monthly expenses you can probably find some cheap warehouse space. |

You might try your local library. Many libraries have a community room you can use. That is what our club uses. The only problem is sometimes they have omitted to other groups or library use. |

We used to do that, and it wasn't cheap. We now use library conference/meeting rooms for free every month. Free is definitely the way to go. |

I was in a club once and we rented out space from a church every week. Cheap and well lit. It was their school gym. |

There's a group I know of that uses a hotel function room, a small space at the weekends but they have to charge to cover the room cost. |

Church groups, Youth groups, Universities, Colleges or Schools Rotary or Scouts. I have visited wargame clubs that have been held in all. Tony |

We rent space in our community league hall. It's not cheap, but it's convenient, has free parking, lots of suitable space and tables and we can't be bumped from our regular time since we have a contractual agreement. The challenge is raising the funds and maintaining commitment from the group to keep it going each year. Would you pay $100 USD per year to game twice per month? We need that from about 15 guys every year to pay the rent. |

Down in Austin there are a number of community centers that will provide the tables and chairs---I would not call it cheap but most offer a steep discount to residents I would stick with Tony---Church groups with social halls would probably be the best value for your monies |

Have your guys who are church members talk with their church governing bodies about using space in the church (church hall, fellowship hall, etc.) for gaming. That's what I do with my church. Our only "draw back" is that we have to defer games in case of funerals, but that has only happened a couple of times over the past 5 or 6 years. Jim |

Check out the Pinball Arcades. Others in Austin are. Dragon's Lair has lots of space but the vibe I got was they would bump historicals for any thing weird. It is Austin after all. |

Check with a Real Estate agent. Tell them what you are looking to rent and how much you would be willing to spend. They get paid on the backend by the property owner or frequently have properties of their own to rent out. As mentioned, check into libraries, churches, rec centers, VFWs, even housing developments have community spaces. Some bars and restaurants have banquet rooms available. It is possible you could use something like this for the price of a meal. Another possibility would be to contact local Cub/Boy Scout units. I was committee chair while my son was going through the program. We often had outside groups, organizations and businesses come in and do demos and the like. This could be a good recruiting tool as well. Be aware that BSA & many churches require background check and clearances any time you would be working with or around kids. |
