I have played Team Yankee, and it is good, but just misses the mark a little…

I would like…
Figs mounted in fireteams or squads.
Tanks& vehicles in 1:1.

Playable with a company or two.
Overwatch or reactionary fire is a must
off-board artilary
Air support

I use IABSM by Too Fat Lardies for WWII and like it

There's a hopefully still pending version of IABSM called I Ain't Been Nuked Mum (also called "Maxims to Milans" once I think, but IABNM sort of stuck), though I believe it's specific to the mid-1980s rather than for the whole Cold War.

In the meanwhile, Sabre Squadron is looking good to me too, and I think a set of rules evolved from the WRG moderns has come out recently too, called Modern Wars?

You might want to give Sabre Squadron a look. The free lite version of the rules is one of the links at the bottom of this page.

You could just use IABSM and extrapolate the tank stuff.

Try Fire & Fury Battlefront WW2 modified rules. We have been using them for Vietnam, Arab Israeli wars and now Cold War. You will need to buy the rules but the modern is free.

WRG 1950, and they're available via download for free.

Just search the TMP message archives for a link, or do a search.

Best I've run across, thus far, and I've done a lot of searching and research.

I liked the 1950-1975 set and the update, Armoured Warfare 1950 -1985 but the last version I could not understand even with good experience of Barkerese.

Apparently they are now available, but no longer free, as a combined edition 1925 to 2000 for $35.90 USD

I'd go with Sabre Squadron. Though there is also a Cold War version of Battlegroup XYZ (I think it's called Battlegroup NORTHAG), check over on the The Guild Wargamers forum: link

Sabre Sqn is great. "BattleGroup Northag" is in development, there has been some work by members of the Guild on an unofficial variant examples on the Guild:

I would recommend Rapid Fire! 'Able Archer 83-84' Cold War Rules Adaptation. Hope it helps.

Take care

Does not have Overwarch by name but it has the equivalent.
It's 1:1 vehicles and teams for the infantry.

More than a company a side is a lot of bits to move if you have lots of infantry in teams regadless of rules.

Ground scale is 1"=10m or 1mm=1m depending on size of models, so airstrikes are a bit close.

Also no points system as its for real type terrain so points systems don't work.

look at the free stuff first. The QR sheet and Bulletin 1 as a minimum. You don't need our terrain irs just an option.
