No idea where else to post this as there is not a Weird WWI board. I watched the first two episodes of the new anime Youjo Senki. It is in an alterantive world war 1 were magicians take the role aircraft and blimps did in the real WW1. The first episode was so-s, but the second episode indicates to me that this might be an interesting series. KT |

I've been working on a matched pair of HotT Weird WWI armies based on he book series "The Great Undead War". Lots of fun there! Look forward to seeing if anyone does anything with your heads-up series. Terry |

I've been reading the manga, the main character is an utter sociopath. Though I'm amused at how the MC is intending actions to be interpreted and how the Army Staff is interpreting those same actions (always the opposite of how they're intended by the MC). |

Man I thank Full Metal Alchemist for this willigness of creators to try more 19th Century-InterWar alternative worlds. There is a good output Gunka No Baltzar (1860s-1890s Europe) Izzeta the Last Witch (1940s) Youjo Senki (1914) |

I saw a trailor, and went away not wanting much more. So often these days, I get a 'okay, drop the power rangers, and let me see the helpless cardboard standees as functioning warriors' feeling. 'What do you mean? Sailor Bluto was totally killed! Our seven heroes bravely carried on and destroyed one thousand of the enemy battleships!' Meh. Doug |

meh, the initial episode and trailer both were not indicative of the theme at least from the second episode. That said it does seem like a series one will either hate or like. The kid age of the protagonist initially was a major irk point, but when the second episode explored a bit more what happened, I found it for some weird reason more enjoyable. It is not no Gunka No Baltzar though, no question about it. |

Hahahaha that was a good one The main character is indeed a sociopath, but he is also gets some things very right "war is unproductive and a waste of human resources" "I do not want to kill or be killed" and the above mentioned. What won me is why he got punished. It does take some guts to do what he did when you are about to meet your maker.-No more for it will be spoiling. |

You could use OGRE rules for a single mage attacking a command post defended by lots of infantry and artillery. |

That is an idea. But I am not sure exactly how strong mages are in Youjo Senki. I think Tanya is kinda exceptional. The fact that they operate in flights, and that they do not totally dominate the battlefield, but more play the role of WW1 aircraft, tells me that most individual mages are not very powerful. It definitely does not look like a war-winning weapon by itself, though this might be more due to small numbers, than small power. We will see down the way. The Izzeta witches, especially if on a battle close to a layline, definetly make for that. In the anime it indicated that a witch was the equivalent of a battalion by her self. In FMA it is clear that while Alcehmists are very powerful they are not so powerful that conventional weapons are useless or redundant. Gunka No Balzar has no wizards/witches. |
