Does anyone know of any good sources, books etc that covers the uniforms and organizations of the Egyptian-Ottoman wars of the 1830's and 1840's?

abc wargamers16 Jan 2017 1:50 p.m. PST

It is worth looking at ottoman-uniforms.com

Do you read German, Egyptian Arab, or Turkish?

Rhysius Cambrensis16 Jan 2017 4:10 p.m. PST

I can read German. None of the others I am afraid.

Hi

For a good background to the Syrian Wars I recommend Virginia Askan's "Ottoman Wars 1700 – 1870" and for details of the Second Syrian War (1838-1839) Letitia Ufford's "The Pasha, How Mehmed Ali defied the West".

I've also got a list of referewnces in French and German (unfortunately most of them long out of print).

If it will help, I've drafted up a short description of the Ottoman and Egyptian armies of the Second Syrian War and a rough orbat for Nisib (1839).
