Hi all. Is it alright to use late roman infantry as sub romano British? I've inherited some foundry figures from a mate.

I usually keep as

historically accurate as possible but appreciate that this is tricky in this period. Plus my knowledge of this area is weak!

Late Roman equipment such as, helmets, chain-mail shirt and characteristic oval shield might be present among the small private armies of the landed aristocracy that chose to remain in Britannia.

I would mix them in the units that you are building, but give them all a non-uniform appearance.

There are plenty of examples here to give you an impression.

Cool mate!

Check out the Arthurian ranges from Saxon Miniatures, Footloose Miniatures, Gripping Beast and Westwind Miniatures. You will be impressed. You should be able to fold your Foundry LR Minis into a Romano British Army by incorporating selective miniatures from the ranges above. I started with a Westwind Core and added miniatures from each of the above.

You could use your army in 5th. century Gallia where your army would be more like a Patrician Roman army with more regular options.

For bases and move trays check out Warbases in UK. Cheap and fast.

Yes you can. We have little real ideas about British dress but starting from a late Roman base is as good a start as any. Maybe pint them with a few added check patterns and less uniformity.

Yes, its all up for grabs, but the little pill box hats which manufacturers put on Arthurian figures were apparently obsolete by 400s.

No one really knows, an authority speculates…. Some one takes it as gospel and bam. Armour was expensive, found and looted items were often in use well outside "their" time.

You should use them as you see fit, a file and some greenstuff will make any changes reuired in quick time.
