"Wargames Factory Plastics Quality." Topic

I finished up a box of Saxons from the Dark Age line, then went on to start assembling some Zulu War Brits. I noticed a definite difference in quality between the two. The Saxons were clean, crisp and had plenty of detail. The Zulu War Brits were lacking in crispness, and detail. I had to really stare at the heads to make out the face. Are they all like that?

Zulu War Brits were their first pack, and their worst. The Romans are also pretty mushy. I like their Viking/Saxons, WWII Americans, zombie survivor, shock troopers,WSS and AWI figures. Haven't really seen any of their other packs. There are much better options for plastic Romans and Zulu War, though I do wish the WSS and shock troopers were available again.

I found the same, still got a company of the Brits and they painted up ok, but the Zulus, Vikings, Saxons, WSS etc are far better!

Actually I believe the male zombies were the first & soft in detail. I like the Republic Romans, once painted I think they look very nice.The later releases were all very nice sculpts IMHO.

Agree – the Brits were first off the mark and look like it, although they do paint up to an acceptable standard

I quite like their Greatcoat troopers and very much like the WSS troops – whom I understand will be coming back to the market in 2017 under the Warlord Games banner

I am quite certain that the Roman infantry was the first set they released. Though those colonial Brits and male Zombies were also amongst the early releases.

As for the Viking/Saxon sets, I tend to find them pretty decent, though I have an issue with the open hands. While this is in principle a great idea when it comes to modelling opportunities, in practice I find it quite difficult to fashion them in a way that I would find satisfactory. Thus I have largely ended up snipping the hands off at the wrist and replacing them with weapon-wielding hands from various other sets. Especially the sling-wielding hands from the GB Dark Age warriors set combined with the unarmoured Saxons tends to make for some quite dynamic looking skirmishers.

Still kick myself for not getting more of the WGF Persians – sprues were on sale some time ago for about 20 cents each. Postage cost me more than the figures!

Their Persian foot and horse come up well. Hoplites are quite good – a tad large!

Also if you have spare javelin arms from the same set, you can also snip them off at the wrist and glue them to the WF arms to provide more variety for your skirmishers, though I don't think they look as good as the slings.

Also some of the bow arms from the Perry WotR box tend to work pretty decently with these figures, in case you might need some skirmishing archers.

I am also experimenting combining some spare Perry crossbow arms with the Saxon/Viking body in cloth armour, though the results in this case do not seem particularly dynamic.
