Which do you play the most?

Basic Impetus, though I also play Impetus. I use BI to introduce new player to the game, as well as folks to wargaming.

I think I played Basic twice and regular once, so basic.

LOL… I think our glorious editor was fishing for a discussion on "why". It is strongly implied. Could perhaps some of you guys elaborate? I would like to know.

Basic.

Why? Cost.

The 1.14 version of Basic with rules for evasion etc. The latest version from Lorenzo is a whole different game indeed and departs too much for me from what was and is an excellent elegant rule set. But its worth buying the download for the huge number of army lists in it. Even if you do not use them as such there is a tremendous amount of info on troop types relevant to each army there.

Impetus. Simple enough as it is.

Impetus. A bit more period chrome, fluff and flavour than Basic.

OK, reasons, you say? Basic Impetus for two reasons.

One (a big one), it works with fairly small armies and our crew has a lot of DBA armies, some double DBA and a few larger than that. We could only play Impetus with the few larger armies. With Basic Impetus we can field them all.

Two, it is somewhat simpler and that does make a difference with our group. There is the matter of time and one of our guys isn't so much a gamer as he comes for the social aspect. Perhaps in time we can lure him to the dark side and get him to read a set of rules…

Basic. I like them simple and straight forward.

Full Impetus. Who has or wants small armies?

After about six games of Basic I bought and then played over 100 games of the full game. However the constant tweaking of the rules to suit tournament play became too much and I haven't played them for approx 12 months now. I have bought BI2 though and they read like an excellent compromise between the original basic version and the ever more complex full version….we shall see

Impetus.

Impetus. Personally I have found the tweaking to be a natural part of the evolution of the Impetus system and find most of the changes have improved the game.
