Just to prime you in advance I`ve been working on image files for an American Civil War paper army pack… These are 5/6mm paper units in a block construction with front side and rear elevations printed on them. To give you an idea of how they will look here`s some photos of my Napoleonic paper units below…. Brunswick infantry:
Austrian musketeers with Hungarian grenadiers.
I`ve pretty much completed the ACW infantry – apart I think, from some coloured union troops. The cavalry are almost there too maybe, although someone might ask for lancers? The rest; skirmishers, artillery, generals and flags should not take me long to make now. This pack will contain both armies necessary for the war… you print off and make as many as you like as it will be a pdf download from my website at grandmanoeuvre.co.uk and the price will only be £10.00 GBP – bargain! These would be great for people wanting to try a period or rules at very little expense, so… for grown-ups as well as children this is a good way to get to use historical armies at low cost. |

Lancers? Rush's Lancers are the only unit I know of and the lance doesn't make it to the end of 1861. Fun but not really useful. |

yes, you jogged my memory a bit there Mark – thinking about why the lance wasn`t THE weapon of the war – I`ll need to make dismounted cavalry and horse-holders ! |

The Brunswicker blocks appear to be 8 files wide by two ranks deep while the Austrian ones appear to be three ranks deep. Am I seeing this right? If so, these could be used to create a 1-to-1 scale company/battalion without great expense. Also what are the measurements of each block? |

The British Center Co is 17mm wide, 7mm high, and 3mm deep. The company is 8 files wide and 2 ranks deep. For $12.50 USD I purchased the British and French Armies. 25 PDF Files for the British. 22 PDF Files for the French. I printed out some British Center Companies on regular 20 pound computer paper, cut them up, folded and then glued. They are surprisingly sturdy and not as fiddly while assembling as I thought. |

I have most of the napoleonic series and I like em'. I wish they were higher resolution (would make resizing easier) but overall they are great product. Looking forward to seeing the ACW version. |

Very neat idea, and lovely stuff, but too fiddly for me. I'll stick with Billy Bones' paper ACW. Having said that, I very much wish you success with these. |

My 6mm ACW paper armies are progressing nicely… Today I finished the flags to go with the armies and now I have only: generals, some dismounted cavalry (in slouch hats), parrot guns & crews and artillery limber teams, and a few finishing touches to the infantry files to add. There will be about 36-40 files in the ACW pack that will give you all you`ll need for the bulk of the forces in the war for both sides. |

Just a brief word, or two to let you know that I`m in the final stages on the designs. I`ll just need to make up a few samples, photograph them (posting them here of course) and then they`ll be avaialble from my website at: grandmanoeuvre.co.uk I`m aiming to make this the end of this week – Saturday the 18th. There will be 40+ files including the flags – I`ll list all the unit type files later on :) |

Only problem with paper armies is you can't recreate the burning of Atlanta! |

I`ve been thinking of buildings too, but there`s alresdy a lots of choice ot there re. 6mm architecture! But then paper ACW buildings would be cheaper ? |

Assembling ACW paper units… It takes about 4-5 minutes per block. 1. The files printed out: these are kept small; no more that about 8, or so blocks per page to save on inks.
2. A unit of Union cavalry cut and folded – it takes about 2-3 minutes to do per block. Once cut, the tiny scissor cut knicks in the paper make folding these small pieces of paper quite easy.
3. Four Union cavalry blocks glued – this takes about 1- 2 minutes per block to glue.
