I've grasped the nettle & am going to re-base my British for the AZW. My Zulu hordes have always been nicely perched on laser cut,MDF movement trays (for 12 figures for Rifles & 24 figures for standard Zulus). These held the individual & slightly separate circular bases in the pleasingly irregularly cut tray. The British have been placed on cheap-jack, home-made card movement trays. The difference in appearance was marked. I've just bought sufficient recti-linear laser-cut MDF movement trays. The holes for the individually based figures are 20X20 squares for dismounted figures & 20X40 bases for mounted. The cut-outs will be used to re-base the figures. I will now strip the individual figures off their card bases & mount them on the MDF cut-outs. Not only will they fit perfectly but it gives me a chance to redo the bases which I originally made too green. More baked earth & an "autumn" scatter should look more like Africa in Summer. |

Sounds like a good plan. I'm in the midst of rebasing my 7YW command stands on to circular washers to better differentiate them from regular stands. Found out that soaking the bases before removing the figures makes things much easier. |

soaking You use white (wood) glue too? This is where it pays dividends. |

Yep. Elmers is your friend. Still my adhesive of choice for most things. |

I feel for you. I really hate rebasing. I avoid it whenever possible. You'll have fun with TSATF. I do it in 1/72. Need to paint up my Frontier Light Horse, NNC (adding to my ECSI NNC) and my HAT Zulus. Love the period. Post pics when you are done please. Thanks! |

My problem with lasercut is that for me they are too thick. I prefer the plastic ones but they are limited in 2 formats. So I make them myself. Thick movement trays take the "realistic" look out of them. |

3mm thick ply. Still too thick? Here's the first finished one:
