For a simple fun game try the rules in Neil Thomas' Wargaming: An Introduction. If you want something rather more detailed (and I've taken some bits from it for use with the rules in the Introduction) his Napoleonic Wargaming is worth a look – review here: PDF link |

Here's my take on Don Featherstone's Horse and Musket rules. Works great for Napoleonic Wars. PDF link Here's a battle report celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Waterloo Campaign. link We called units "brigades" but really it plays like a game you seek. Only about 6 pages of rules to follow. |

Black Powder. Gives a very fun game, and can be used for many other periods such as the American Civil War or the Seven Years War. Hail Caesar and Pike & Shotte share many of the same mechanisms, so if you like them you can try the same concepts for ancients and renaissance. |

Another vote for Black Powder. The scale and basing are vague so you can have a lot of flexibility. I also like Grande Armee and the different, but clearly related, Bluchee, as well. Of the two I thought Grande Armee was better. |

Well, thanks. We are basing using "polemos" in 60mm x 30mm. Can i play for example general de brigade with this bases? Thanks |

I am not familiar with 'Polemos', however General de Brigade is based on a 20:1 figure ratio and primarily for 15mm and 25/28mm figures. In terms of complexity it is not fast play but somewhere between fast play and very complex. They are ideal for divisional level games (has a corps optional rules)and reflects the tactical battlefield very well. IMHO they are the best tactical Napoleonic rules available. |

How about "Commands & Colors: Napoleonics" with miniatures? |

Although not supported by the wider wargaming groups Napoleon at War is a simple and fun game. There are no intricate measuring to manoeuvre into combat or firing range. Morale is done quick and easily and firing distances are similar to other rules. |

Another vote for BP, I also like General de Brigade, but can never seem to finish a game on club night. So most times it BP |

I'll throw in Drums and Shakos Large Battles for a very innovative, easy to play and fun set of rules. Battalions are four stands each, so not sure Polemos basing would work for the base game, but would work for the army level game, where each unit is a brigade, and there are no formation changes. |
