The famous battle gamed with 1/900 ships of the line

I thought all naval gaming whether age of sail or later was on a 1:1 scale?

Awesome sight!

You can scale things down, so for example in a WW1 game a battleship can represent several ships and a destroyer model can represent a squadron… I've done a mini Jutland game where the British Grand Fleet has:
Jellicoe – 3 dreadnoughts, 1 cruiser, 1 destroyer.
Beatty – 1 battle cruiser, 1 cruiser, 2 destroyers.

And the German High Seas Fleet has:
Scheer – 2 dreadnoughts, 1 pre-dreadnought, 1 destroyer. Hipper – 1 battle cruiser, 1 cruiser, 1 destroyer.

The whole battle takes less than an hour using a variant of Neil Thomas' One Hour Wargames.

Thanks all

Well done! There's few people who have a collection of sail large enough to game this classic encounter.

It certainly makes for a grand sight, although a larger table for the sake of more room to swing the tiller would be a bonus. Still, that doesn't detract from your achievement at all. Fleets you can be justly proud of. :)

I've also been dabbling with making some card 1/900th's… but rather than shanghai your thread, I'll start my own… once the collection begins to approach your applaudable efforts!

It's a lot easier with 1:2400 ships

But I admire the spirit

Looks like a fantastic game and I love the details on the models -- wouldn't have thought paper kits would looks so nice! But for a second there I thought you meant, you know, 1:1!…

Best luck Macrossmartin!

Yep, my father complained about lack of space and I had some trouble turning the combined vanguard

"and I had some trouble turning the combined vanguard"

- so did Villeneuve. :D
