"The Weekend" has finalized its dates and is working on it's plans for 2017.

It will be held July 21 to July 25th at the Continental Inn, 2285 Lincoln Highway East (Route 30E) Lancaster PA., 17602 717-299-0421.

We are extending the dates of the convention because of many gamers to get in more gaming time. For the 21st and 22nd (Wednesday and Thursday) we will have gaming in the smaller Card Room just off the lobby, and on Sunday in the same room if there is enough interest. On Friday and Saturday we have the large 5,000 square foot ballroom as we normally do.

The card room will host one large table for miniatures games and four smaller ones for board games. (We can move things around as to demand.) The ballroom will have sixteen tables for games and another 8 for board games.

The theme for the convention will be "The American Civil War: Hell hath broken loose in Dogpatch Sho Nuff!" Two battles already scheduled are "The Battle of Fredericksburg of Hollywood" and "Gnoshville!"

"Junta," "History of the World," and "Advanced Civilization" are also scheduled. The last two have some new cards and events both to speed things up and lighten them up as well.

There are several other battles being planned.

Cost for the convention is free if you stay at the Continental Hotel. If you stay elsewhere we are asking for a $20 USD donation for equity's sake. The more hotel rooms we take the more credit we get. We aren't trying to make any money here, just cover our expenses.

Of course… the Munchie table is part of the show and so think about what you'd like to bring to pile up.

TECHNICALLY the convention is "invitation only" but we have plenty of space so all you need to get an invite is to ask for one. We do this so we can mail out badges and get as much done as we can BEFORE the convention because no one likes to sit at a registration desk and do work, they'd rather play games. So we don't have any real volunteers or staff. If we cover our rooms and have any cash left over we pile it up against next years costs.

No one gets a free room, not even me.

If you wish to get a copy of last years "After Action Report / Keepsake booklet which is a 48 page full color compendium of battle reports of the game pictures articles of general interest and schedules go to sigurd@eclipse.net and give me your postal delivery address. The cost for this is $12 USD simply to cover printing and postage.

We do the after action report because a PEL (pre-event listing) is useless once the convention starts. If you contact me we send you our FREE quarterly update report which tells you what new games are scheduled, and what new events are signed on.

If you want to download the after action report or the quarterly update bulletins you can do so by joining "The Society of Daisy" as we upload it to our files. These can be downloaded as individual pages if you wish.

I thought the convention was normally held in June?

Ottoathome11 Jan 2017 3:36 p.m. PST

OOOOPS My mistake, it is in June, June 21 to 25. Sorry about that.

Ottoathome11 Jan 2017 3:38 p.m. PST

We just had an update. Jerry Lannigan is going to be putting on a "Picket's Charge game using Black Powder rules." He's apparently got a huge number of figures he wants to truck out.

We also will have a SAGA tournament and an Art of War tournament.

Thanks Otto for the Update. And there will be an ADLG Team Tournament

After realizing I messed up the dates for Cold Wars and another local con with my wife, and I'm now forced to be "SportsDad" for those weekends, seeing the initial July dates listed forced an audible scream.

I'm appreciative that a) that was an honest typo and b) numerous coworkers knocked on my door to check on me.

Ottoathome12 Jan 2017 8:46 a.m. PST

Dear Eric

Sorry. I don't know how that egregious typo got past me. I checked it several times but mistakes happen. I caught it as soon as I went back in to check.

Yes we are very hopeful this year what with the extended time and events. I also should mention that there is a "wives and significant others" part of the convention where they all go off in a gaggle to shop at the local outlets, do lunches side trips etc. Then many come back and game with the guys.

Finally there is MSTK2000. While Military Science Theater 2000 will still be shown there is a problem with the theme. There aren't that many civil war movies running around out there and very few very bad ones. We might think of doing two westerns this year instead if we can't find them, but if not there are ALWAYS lots of awful sci-fi movies. We'll do our best to find two awful civil war movies though.
