Steiner, Thanks for posting, a rough looking fight for the attackers; that Canadian line looked like a tough nut to crack from the outset, much less getting a reinforcing Troop of tanks and having a 17-pdr off table! These rules have intrigued me for a bit, maybe someday I'll have to give them a real look. Seems to me I'd handle the Germans as 'the whole squad does the same thing on 1 order, or you can split the two elements using 2 orders, player's choice as the tactical situation dictates.' If the concept is that the Germans were more flexible/had better small unit leadership, that should do it, rather than seemingly penalizing them. V/R, Jack |

Its not quite that simple… The whole advantage of the squad split is in how the Suppression Fire work in concert with casualties on the morale table, as well as the ability to generate twice as many fire opportunites as a British platoon… That's twice as many chances to suppress or kill a target… and force morale tests. That's the big advantage of the squad split and allows the Germans to be used in a much more surgical manner. The disadvantage, and there is always a flip side – is that it uses more orders. This is slightly off-set by German forces having access to more units which confer the Officer ability, but no bonus comes without its downside… The Germans aint supermen after all. It is a tough scenario… Its a historical based scenario and we don't tend to always include balanced ones… Some of our historical scenarios are very hard fights. I hope they are still fun though. :)

Tough game for the Germans. Was the die rolling for them worse than normal or do you think the scenario is squewed? Good looking game. |

It would be nice if the Germans had the option not to split the squad as this creates some distinct problems for them (consumes many orders making them sluggish and creates small easy to kill sub-units which eat up Chit draws which are the road to ultimate defeat). TomT |

Thomas: you can houserule that option without problem. You are giving away their main advantage. |

…and those small teams are harder to spot… so again another advantage Thomas. Thanks for reminding me. :) |

I've always played the rules as written and after around 100 games I have not seen it to be any disadvantage for the Germans at all. |

Nice looking game. I enjoy the rules and find they give a "fun" game, which is my main reason for playing. I just wish I could persuade the people at my club to buy into them, but they are all too firmly wedded to Rapid Fire. Nothing against RF, just prefer Battlegroup. |
