Just finished my first Dragoons, from the plastic Perry box. Overall I really liked the box, and it gives you a lot of value if you are playing a skirmish game like SP2.

Thanks! They were great fun to paint. Next up I'm about to get some assorted cavalry sprues from Warlord's sprue sale, and I look forward to comparing them. |

Would be very interested in a comparison. They should mix with Perrys plastics and add some variety. The suggestion seems to be not as sharply moulded or detailed and, for the lancers certainly, spoiled by the cloak over the wrong shoulder |

Spoiled? Yep, that we certainly are these days. I think I could live with the cloak… |

Thanks! And yes, there are some lancers in the sprue box as well. I like when the details are correct, but I'm ready to let them trot along even with wrongly worn cloaks. ;) |

Sure, maybe slightly spoiled…and it is only some of them. But it takes five seconds research to work out which shoulder. At random you still have a 50% chance. Perrys got it right for their superb 11th Cuirassiers, but the horses still also carry the same folded cloak on the portmanteau (that I will not moan about….belt and braces and, if it does turn really chilly….!) Cloak over right shoulder, lancer or no, spongeman to the right of the gun, King's Colour to the right of the colour party, grenadiers to the right of the regt line. |

great painting, however the French Dragoons still wore their pre Bardin uniforms in 1812, so they would do well for late 1813. I am in line with deadheads comments. |

von Winterfeldt: I know, right! I was shocked when I started out our project for the French invasion of Russia, as I was new to the period: "Hmmm, autumn 1812, all these Perry boxes of 1812-1815 French will be PERFECT. Now I have a cheap, easy to transport bulk for my forces! Hey, what's this about them not using 1812 uniforms in 1812?!?" But at the same time it's fun to do research about a new period, learn those trivia, and finally decide how far you'll go to model historical reality. For me, I'm fine with a few missteps, like Dragons à Pied with the wrong boots, or in this case, the wrong uniforms. PS: I also didn't realize I painted the wrong insignia on my Voltigeurs' giberne! :O You live and you learn… |
