link Well that kills any chance I will buy their titans in another scale. It looks like I will keep the 6mm stuff I have. I still have hope for BFG and Necromunda lets see if they screw those up also… |
Acharnement | 09 Jan 2017 6:57 p.m. PST |
Just have to continue to convince myself that the piles of Epic that I already are "enough." Thanks for the link! |
nvdoyle | 09 Jan 2017 7:28 p.m. PST |
Why remake Epic, when they've already got people playing it at a much higher price point, in 28mm? Anyway, it sounds like we'll get remodeled titans, which is just fine. Same for Necromunda – all I care about is new models, I've got no real interest in playing their rules. BFG, on the other hand, is one of the few where I was happy with their rules. Which is odd, for me. |
javelin98 | 09 Jan 2017 7:34 p.m. PST |
Epic wasn't 40k at a smaller scale; 40k was Epic at a larger scale (ludicrously so). This is disappointing. |
wminsing | 09 Jan 2017 7:36 p.m. PST |
The titans should be fine to go with my existing epic stuff in 8mm or 10mm or whatever they go with. The bigger the better…. -Will |

That doesn't mean anything, except that they are initially releasing a Titans-only game. Who can say what will happen a year from now, if sales are good? And actually the description of the new rules sounds fun, and hearkens back to the original Adeptus Titanicus. I'm going to give this a look when it comes out. |
nsolomon99 | 10 Jan 2017 3:43 a.m. PST |
The whole exercise and a potential full build out from Adeptus Titanicus to Epic will be entirely dependant on profits. If its successful they'll push the product line further, if not …. |

So, if I read it right, we will have Battletech 40K but with easier and faster to play rules, plus top-notch plastic models. Sign me in. |

Who can say what will happen a year from now, if sales are good? I think that's the key here. Problem is, it works both ways. I think if GW had promoted Dreadfleet (or a one-off something LIKE Dreadfleet) as the "possible" opener to a new Man-o-War, it would have been more successful. GW opened the Epic line with the original AT (which I found quick and fun), then moved into Space Marine. I personally feel they have rocks in their head if they don't put out a "maybe one-off" of SM, to work up enthusiasm for a possible re-release. BTW, anyone know how big these will be, relative to the old stuff? |
Legion 4 | 10 Jan 2017 9:16 a.m. PST |
I think it will only be titan vs. titan for this 5 iteration of Epic. Which will be 8mm … And I don't think it will ever be an attempt to be a combined arms game like other Epic. Something else, Epic was "supposed" to be 6mm … but as we know some scale creep occurred. As time passed. But Titans were always 1/500 vs. the other Epic models that were 1/300-1/285/6mm. |
Russ Lockwood | 10 Jan 2017 11:17 a.m. PST |
You can always substitute other models for Titans -- we've used BattleTech mechs often enough. We tweak the sheets a bit, but then again, at times we use all sorts of sci-fi troops, vehicles, and mechs from a variety of manufacturers. |
wminsing | 10 Jan 2017 3:27 p.m. PST |
Yea Dreadfleet was definitely a miss for GW in terms of building a new product line. But it came during the time when they were trying to consolidate so I'm not all that surprised nothing ever came of it. -Will |
ROUWetPatchBehindTheSofa | 10 Jan 2017 3:27 p.m. PST |
The rules sound like a step up in detail from most previous sets, and the addition of the 'machine spirit' having a mind of its own is an interesting kink. I can't see 5 warhounds versus 5 warlords ending well unless the 'stratgems' are quite powerful. Addition of the battleboard sounds like its not going to be a cheap box set, but I guess we'll see. |
Legion 4 | 11 Jan 2017 10:48 a.m. PST |
Based current prices of other GW/FW models, etc. … this 5th version of Epic will be pricey. Another reason I think they will only do Titan vs. Titan They can charge a lot of $$$$ for those. Look at the price of a 40K Dreadnaught … |
ordinarybass | 11 Jan 2017 2:08 p.m. PST |
Not surprised at all about this. It's really short sighted but Im sure even the thought that Epic sales could bite into 40k even a bit is enough to send GW running the other way. Far easier for them to release Titanicus, Necromunda and other small projects that folks will buy without any chance of diverting from 40k sales. |
Weasel | 12 Jan 2017 6:39 a.m. PST |
I'm thinking they are worried about it cutting into 40K revenues. A titan game would be fun though. |
mashrewba | 15 Jan 2017 4:37 a.m. PST |
8mm -does this mean the Titans will be around the right actual size for 6mm Epic. They're going to be tishly expensive aren't they lol |
Legion 4 | 15 Jan 2017 9:23 a.m. PST |
Good question ? The original Titans were 1/500 scale while the rest of Epic models were supposed to be 6mm 1/300 … That being said, my estimate of the cost. Whatever scale the brain trust at GW/FW decides to do. As I said, it will probably be about the cost of a FW 40K Dreadnaught. Or more … Again this is just my "educated(?)" guess … |
Logain | 15 Jan 2017 12:15 p.m. PST |
Well, based on their past releases, I'd bet on a boxed game with the minimum miniatures needed to play a game, plus some terrain, dice, rules, scenarios etc for around $100 USD-150US. Add-on miniatures will probably be pricey. I'm definitely interested in what they will do, I think it COULD be great for epic gamers, but I am in no way planning to purchase it until reading some reviews on TacCom. |
mashrewba | 15 Jan 2017 3:11 p.m. PST |
I haven't been following this closely but did I see a reference to Forge World and resin. I'd be hoping for some plastic kits. There have been some good stand alone games from GW of late. I know this because I've collected all the rules, boards, cards etc of EBay for not very much to use with my existing miniatures, which I imagine is fairly common. |
Legion 4 | 15 Jan 2017 4:08 p.m. PST |
in no way planning to purchase it until reading some reviews on TacCom. Tac Cmd is the best place to find out about Epic and 6mm Sci-fi in general … |
Dragon Gunner | 16 Jan 2017 5:40 p.m. PST |
I was hoping they would start with two complete armies of combined arms ( titans, vehicles and infantry). If they try the release it with a "see how it does" my response will be, "Yes lets wait and see how it does". I want some hope of a comprehensive line and not some dribbled release. I also want to see Orks and Eldar eventually. Fail to produce it and I keep the 6mm stuff I already have. If GW is worried about Epic cutting into 40K sales I would tell them I will not play 40K in its current form. I prefer smaller skirmish games in 28MM like Necromunda. I still buy their infantry miniatures but not the UBER war machines that look ridiculous on a standard 8' by 4' table. I will pick up the odd vehicle model to use as an inert center piece for a scenario (i.e. get to the chopper) I would also remind GW the market is glutted with their existing products most can be picked up second hand. A new release of Epic in a different scale would mean they would be the only source initially. oh well enough of my rant… On a side note and unrelated to 6mm I am hoping Necromunda will get several plastic sprues with infinite customization, weapon possibilities for all possible variants of gangs and equipment. |
Legion 4 | 18 Jan 2017 9:02 a.m. PST |
Something I've learn when I first be came involved with GW in '89. Be prepared to be disappointed. I have had no dealing directly with GW or FW for over a decade. As I have mentioned often. With all the new, great 6mm Sci-fi available today. IMO, GW basically is not needed for that. And since I don't do any scale but 6mm. They really have no real influence on my buying, etc. I do like their Washes though. But very, very rarely buy their paints. I prefer more realistic military, camo, tactical colors … |
Twoball Cane | 19 Jan 2017 6:36 p.m. PST |
I'll pounce on necromunda, but that's the only GW product I ever card about. |
Mithmee | 30 Jan 2017 6:32 p.m. PST |
I think it will only be titan vs. titan for this 5 iteration of Epic. Which will be 8mm … And I don't think it will ever be an attempt to be a combined arms game like other Epic. Well so much for it making a profit other than GW selling Titans for $40 USD-$50. They're going to be Bleeped texttishly expensive aren't they Gee you think, this is GW and if they could get away with selling them for $75 USD-$100 per Titan they would. |
Mithmee | 30 Jan 2017 6:33 p.m. PST |
Oh and I have: Space Marines Eldar Orks Imperial Guard Squats Already so I would have been buying into larger scale anyway. |
Uesugi Kenshin | 30 Jan 2017 7:22 p.m. PST |
Bummer….looks like I'll have to manage just playing 30k, 40k, Bloodbowl, Aeronautica Imperialis, and Battlefleet Gothic! |
