I've just finished the "final" unit of a wargames' army. And as you do, I've set the army up to admire it. It's interesting how it can look different depending on circumstances. It looks worst, generally, through the camera's eye. The camera seems to accentuate faults. by light of day (& a bright day: it's summer here), the army looks ok. But at night, under strong artificial lighting; that's when it looks as its best. I'm not sure why. Taking this further, an old, well-used army often rates barely a glance, unlike a new one that is looked at from different angles & with concentration. Given our hobby is mostly visual, I thought these perspectives were worth noting. Comment? |

Tell me about it. When I look at my figures, all I see are my mistakes. The camera only magnifies them. |

Just take the glasses off. Everything looks better….if a bit fuzzy. : ) |

The longer I paint, the more mistakes I find. These days, they're painted, based, grassed and matted, and then they get ONE inspection for glaring errors. After that, they have to be so bad I notice them when playing and put them aside to be fixed after the game. |

It's interesting how it can look different depending on circumstances. It looks worst, generally, through the camera's eye. I couldn't tell for the glare! The flash makes my satin sealer look a bit like my mini have been dipped in Vaseline. The effect isn't really an issue IRL. |

'But at night, under strong artificial lighting; that's when it looks as its best. I'm not sure why.' Is that when you painted them? Because they are always going to look most'right' under those lighting conditions. |

My figures look best when I take pictures of them outside in direct sunlight. Hooray for the bright desert sun. |

I dunno. My figures are, for the most part, old friends, most of them. As with friends of long acquaintance, I tend to ignore any flaws – especially since many of the flaws I created…. |

I feel a sense of accomplishment when I finish an army. They are my close friends. |

I think people look at other people's figures differently too. An amazing number barely look at all. The others tend to look & be far more forgiving about faults than the person who painted them. |

I painted some figures recently and thought they looked fantastic. After taking some photos of them I couldn't believe they were the same figures. Taking great photos of painted figures is an art. |

mine look best in none direct sunlight from about 0.5-1 feet distance. They don't hold up closer than that. |

cameras hate me they refuse to capture what is in front of it, so guys it is all the cameras fault not yours, your camera hates you to. |
