Good question. The helmet was a US M1 steel pot. Their GP machine gun looked like a German MG 42. The rifle would have been an FAL or a Steyr bullpup depending on what time period you are looking at (assuming you are not interested in the WWII surplus rifle equipped post war army). I am pretty sure their uniform cut was their own, and the field cap looked like the field cap of earlier wars. I guess it may be a matter of determining whether you think the rifle or the helmet is the most identifying feature of the uniform.

In 15mm how distinctive is the G3 vs FN FAL?

If not much then West Germans have the M1 helmet. I don't know what the Austrian field uniform looked like maybe 15mm isn't too different?

I'd go with Falklands Cold War troops, who carry the FAL, which is longer, and wear American kit.

Perhaps headswaps with WWII Germans if you want them in caps.

Note – these also work for 1950s era West Germans as well.

The G3 has slightly shorter barrel but in 15mm it is really hard to tell the difference. The Steyr AG is of course unique.

Sounds like West Germans would do the job.

Canadians would work well

Just need to change the LMG….

As a proxy either our Brits with SLR (FN), our Germans with G3 or the Canadians should be out towards the end of the month
