20° F outside, so time to pose another poll, sparked this time by the "bad historical portrayal" poll now running. What "classic" movie(s) have you always wanted to see,but have somehow never gotten around to? For me, the Good would be Fritz Lang's 1924 epic two-part take on "Die Nibelungen". I actually have this on videotape, but that set was produced running at modern speed, rather than the 16fps of the original, making it unwatchable for me. It may have since been done right, but I don't know. As for bad, well. . .so many to choose from (though I've made strenuous efforts!). Wouldn't mind finally seeing a film that garnered many votes in the aforementioned poll,John Wayne's "Conqueror",despite a rather ghoulish feeling about it,given the sad aftermath. But the one I've really wanted to see,for years,is Zugsmith's "Sex Kittens Go to College": link Usually described as "shockingly unfunny". But that cast! Which "classics",good or bad, do you want to see? |

I've never seen fight club or any matrix movies |

Never seen a 'Twighlight' movie, but I'd call that 'successfully avoided' rather than 'missed'. Haven't seen a Superhero movie since Ang Lee's 'Hulk'. (Which was pretty grim.) Despite being well into comics as a kid, I can't summon any interest in movies of the genre. |

In my opinion, 'Fight Club' was pretty good. 'Matrix' was okay but please ignore the constant 'interpretation' of the movie by idiots and focus on the action – which is pretty good, if a bit overblown in parts. I've wanted to see three Yul Brenner epics – 'Kings of the Sun', 'Taras Bulba' and 'Battle of the Neretva'. I vaguely remember seeing all 3 at one point in time but would like to see them again just to refresh my memory. I've never seen "Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill, Kill" – the Russ Meyer epic, though it's been on my list for a while. |

Die Nibelungen has been restored by the Murnau Foundation. A U.S. Blu Ray is available from Kino Lorber. YouTube link I recently found a used DVD copy of Ascenseur pour l'échafaud (a.k.a. Elevator to the Gallows or Lift to the Scaffold). I have yet to watch it. On a less elevated note, I also want to see some of the pre-Mad Max car movies. Death Race 2000, maybe. Ron |

Saw "The Matrix" – loved it, got really excited about the sequel – saw the sequel (Reloaded?) – what a complete waste of time. Never even bothered with part three. |

Never seen "The Thin Red Line" all the way through. I'm aware some people claim to have sat through the whole thing, but I don't believe them. |

A couple of years ago I got to fulfil a very nearly life long ambition: Metropolis – in a cinema – on a pretty big screen. And even better : the latest restored cut – cleaned up and with an extra twenty minutes or more of "lost footage" (albeit that came from the pretty poor in places restored Argentinian 16mm print). Wow – was I happy. |

"Alexander Nevsky" and "The Seven Samurai." And I'm going to go on missing them until they get dubbed. |

Maybe it's just me,but after I've seen subtitled films, I don't remember them that way. If some of the movies listed above are considered "classic", I must be getting old. Coelacanth--thanks! |

I have never seen, nor do I care to see any of the so-called Super Hero movies. Not my bag baby! |

Many of my chums tell me the Shawshank Redemption is a "must see" but I've ever seen it |

It's pretty good – as long as you skate over the half dozen enormous plot holes. |

Never seen "The Thin Red Line" all the way through. I'm aware some people claim to have sat through the whole thing, but I don't believe them. I'm a TRL survivor. Even today, whenever I see tall grass gently blowing in the wind, I have to bite down on a strop and hold in my screams. |

I never saw Citizen Kane or the Maltese falcon |

I still need to see Citizen Kane. For those with Fight Club on the to-do list, please do. I missed it in the theater because I thought it was a Brad Pitt boxing movie. Oh man, was I wrong. Really great movie.

Attention, everyone! Weasel is banned from Pulp games until he's watched Maltese Falcon! Seriously, though,Falcon, while a good film,is memorable more for its characters, which are really caricatures that became icons. That's the case for a number of "classic" movies--"Kiss of Death",for instance,an OK film that launched Richard Widmark to fame, due to his psycho gangster role. I never really bought Bogie falling for Mary Astor, any more than Clark Gable doing the same in "Red Dust"(really? Abandoning Jean Harlow for her? Come on!). Enjoyable film, nonetheless, and I rewatch from time to time. Kane is for appreciating its technical innovations and directorial daring do--and for its influences on later filmmaking. Its legacy is ongoing--it's reportedly Donald Trump's favorite film. |

The Light Horsemen, if that is the correct title. |

It must be telling, if "Citizen Kane" is really Trump's favorite movie. Personally, I consider it the most over-rated movie of all time. The one time I did watch it, I immediately regretted the wasted time. |

The Maltese Falcon is so close to the book that when reading it I always see the movie characters. Like – really close : seating arrangements, exact dialogue. Everything. |

I sat through the entire 2 hours and 50 minutes of "The Thin Red Line". I knew Pvt Witt is killed at the end and after the first 10 minutes of the movie I wanted to see SEE HIM DIE!!! |
