Hello peeps, Back when the world was young, GWs Imperial Guard wore a helmet with a stripe fore and aft. My googling has come up blank, but l remember these stripes being in colours according to arm of service? Red? for Tactical squads? yellow, for assault? white for rough riders? I also remember Blue, maybe heavy weapon squads? Can anyone tell me the canon for these colours? or point me to a link from White Dwarf magazine, or summit? Many thanks for any help you can give. John, Yellow stripe with Flag emblem = Command Section Green Stripe with scimitar emblem = assault squad Red stripe with forward pointing arrow = Tactical squad Blue stripe with a jagged circular blast = Support Squad. There's a page in White Dwarf 109 that details this. |

I was much later to the game, but I believe with Cadians at least, a white stripe on the helmet meant "newer" recruits. Maybe they had different stats and point costs for one iteration of the game and then discontinued? AHA! link A rare moment my memory did not fail… Whiteshield – and not just Cadians. |

Prince Rupert, that's the image l found, really useful for all things Imperial Guard, except the Helmet colours! But, great information, Thank you all, and alpha3six great stuff, that's what I meant, obviously! Lol. I remember the White shields, in the WD article. Did the Cavalry, rough riders, have a colour? Cheers again everyone. John |

Did the Cavalry, rough riders, have a colour? IIRC, and its fairly big if, the rough riders used the same helmet colours as everyone else, i.e. Red for a tac squad, green for comman, etc. |

Just dug out my compendium. Weirdly there is no direct info on the helmet colour stripes but if you read around the info alpha3zero has nailed it. A few other interesting points that might not be relevant but I found informative. White shields have (no surprise) white helmet stripes and white chest badges Rapier, tarantula and mole mortar crews are regimental support which apparently means blue uniforms with red shoulder pads (?!) Landspeeder crews (when guardsmen got such things) wear all white uniforms. Rough riders can have any helmet colour stripe because any type of platoon can be mounted on horses to become rough riders. |

I painted my IG tactical squad with a red stripe, "1st edition" metals :) I had hair then.. |

Londoncalling, didn't we all! More great info, I, of course, had that book, but stupidly sold it, along with some great figures, when I moved to the USA. I never knew about the blue arty uniforms, or the white speeder crews? John |

John@ it wasn't something I recalled its written down in the descriptions of the various equipment but I'm pretty sure the GW painters at the time just painted them all in standard codex grey uniforms. |

I wish they'd bring back that IG look, and I wish I still have my old figs! Anyone remember the Paranoia/40k crossover called "Vulture Warriors from Dimension X meet plenty of happy orks with Plasma guns"? I believe they used IG for the Troubleshooter figures… |

You need to remember that GW has basically killed off any of the old fluff. Today Imperial Guard all come from Cadia. The good days of GW was two decades ago. Since then they have only made the game worst. |

Well, Thanks Mith, I was enjoying my thread til you came in, with your usual bitterness, and bile, We get it it, you think GW are the 'great Satan' but give it a rest, it's boring. Your like TMPs own Tyranid hive fleet, spreading your dark cloak slowly over the 40k universe, devouring all fun hobby talk with your relentless bitching, leaving worlds barren, and fun-free! 😋 Everyone else, thanks again great information, but Speeder crews in white painting overalls, er, no, Grey for my boys! Today Imperial Guard all come from Cadia. GW still makes models for Catachans, Steel Legion, Vostrayans, Elysians, Death Korp of Krieg, etc. |

Anyone remember the Paranoia/40k crossover called "Vulture Warriors from Dimension X meet plenty of happy orks with Plasma guns"? I believe they used IG for the Troubleshooter figures… Oh, yeah, still got that issue! Actually I think at that point they were still 'Imperial Army' rather than IG. |

Yeah I have a copy of the original Chapter Approved with the first ever 40K army lists and the Imperial Guard are the called Imperial Army. That was one funky list allsorts of stuff Squats, jetbikes and land raiders. Basically anything GW did as a 40K model in 1987 thrown into one list. |
